Only issue with the Russell is where the reception is located. There is no lift or alternative access to the hotel. The stairs are very narrow and slightly off putting on first encounter but other than that it is a very nice, centrally located hotel. I was well looked after.

A delightful hotel in the best spot in Sydney. Pleasant helpful staff. The lack of air conditioning made the room warm on a hot summers day but the easy access to all Sydney harbour locations and great restaurants more than made up for that. Breakfast was lovely. A good price for such a central location.

Great place to stay, this hotel has a lot of old world character, and the central location is about as good as you can get. The staff were all friendly and really helpful. I would definitely recommend staying at the Russell Hotel.

If a historical experience isn't your cup of tea, better find a slick hotel instead of the Russell. If staying in a homey time warped hotel sounds like fun to you, try this hotel. I got a room with a shared bathroom down the hall. This ended up not being a big deal, but it felt a bit off considering the $140AUD paid for the room. But what we saved on the great breakfast each morning and in cab fare, since we were right at the travel hub and in the Rocks historical area with great bars and restaurants, made up for it. I'd stay there again. It was convenient and enhanced my Sydney experience.

Great location for the Rocks and Circular Quay. Free internet access for 15 minutes at a time was very handy. Clean "old fashioned" bedrooms with creaky floors and stairs. Having breakfast included was also a bonus. Make sure you get a room with your own bathroom, not a shared bathroom.

Great location. Remodeled old hotel [walk up to desk and rooms]. Good service and clean. Free breakfast was very good. Worst feature was toting bags up to registration and room or rating would have been excellent.

great value, great location room was clean and spacious. wi-fi in the lobby is a little spotty, but it’s free(!). there’s also a free internet-accessible computer in the lobby. great location, just blocks from the harbor and major transportation hub (ferry/subway/bus). all rooms are on upper floors and there are no elevators, so beware if you have any physical limitations. Traveler's tip on recreational activities take the train from circular quay station to the blue mountains and use the convenient all-day buses to explore--this is much cheaper and allows for more independence than the many guided tours to the area.

This hotel was such a dump, loud traffic outside, windows which wouldn't close, old, dilapidated furniture, non-working appliances in the apartment, charming it wasn't. The only good thing about this hotel were the jelly beans in the lobby. We left after one night of a planned four night stay and went to the Intercontinental.
