[ ] The Medusa Hotel in Sydney, Australia Well connected travellers have long enjoyed the indulgent pleasure of design boutique hotels all over the world. Sydney has Medusa. Voted by UK travel bible, Conde Nast Traveller as one the 21 cool hotels for the 21st century, Medusa addresses the new generation of urban traveller for a contemporary designed hotel in the lifestyle precinct of Sydney. No element has been omitted in the effort to meet the needs of the guest in this grand heritage mansion that presents a dramatic blend of the legendary and the cutting edge. The modernist design by interior architect Scott Weston adds depth and colour via a history and heritage that is both captivating and luxurious. Medusa is fashionably understated, the 18 rooms including 5 Grand Rooms and a Private Business Room will satisfy those who appreciate the importance of beautiful surroundings, comfort and privacy. The hotels team and architect, Scott Weston have received many design awards, including the Gourmet Traveller Jaguar Award' and the Dulex Award'. In appreciation of the modern and the classic, the design and building team pared away all the non-essential elements of a traditional hotel. Next was the introduction of vibrant colour and texture. Stunning mixtures of timbers, a magnificent paper chandelier and extraordinary joinery pay homage to bold theatrics in furnishings where each room takes on an individual identity. All rooms are finished in French white with a feature polished wall of individual colour which gives the rooms their own identity, said Weston to Belle Magazine for launch featured in 1999. Medusa's rooms are all for double occupancy with king or queen size beds. All provide ensuites, mini bars, kitchenettes, key card security and luxurious Aveda amenities. The facilities include personal safes and high speed wireless internet access in rooms, a private business room and a DVD and CD library. There is a gymnasium and swimming pool access to nearby popular clubs and 24 hour reception. Most rooms overlook the central courtyard with its dramatic sculpture fountain and reflection pool. Some are elevated and view the areas established trees and others enjoy outlooks adjacent to beautiful St Johns Church. The hotel also welcomes guest's dogs in the courtyard rooms. At Medusa, the X factor is obvious, whether it be the fresh flowers, the calm atmosphere or the sincere service that evokes personality. Located in the epicenter of fashionable Darlinghurst, which has been likened to New York's Soho, Medusa is within walking distance of the CBD, Sydney Harbour, The Opera House, The Botanic Gardens, Art Galleries, Museums and a short stroll to everything else. It is also a gourmet metropolis with many of Sydney's finest restaurants, cafes and hip bars immediately out side the door. Darlinghurst is the quintessential urban village known for the best Italian coffee and eclectic boutiques that highlight avant-garde fashion and home wares. A short five-minute journey 'on foot' takes you to Oxford Street, the world famous boulevard where the annual Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is held. It is a Mecca of groovy clubs, ultra modern cocktail bars, hip pubs, cinemas and theaters. Medusa is also convenient to all forms of transport. Taxis can be hailed right outside the door. The bus stop is also closeby; buses go to Circular Quay, the CBD and the Sydney Ferry jetty. Kings Cross Railway Station is a 5-minute walk and Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport is a 15-minute taxi ride. For more information on Medusa's location, go to our home page.

The room was dark and the bathroom small, but I felt at home thanks to the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The hotel has a lot of charm, there is small but beautifully designed minimalistic garden and the hotel location is great. There are very good restaurants in the neighbourhood for breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner, and all recommendations received from the staff proved to be right on.
