Great place for young people Great place for young people to stay. You’ll get to meet new people from all over the world, and there’s a lot of fun activities you can do nearby. The bar next door is a nice addition. They even walk around the hostel giving out free shots sometimes. I would love to stay there again.

A very social hostel Darling Harbour is less than 5 minutes' walk away, and is a really attractive neighbourhood, with plenty of shops, bars, and family attractions.

Had a blast I had an amazing time staying at Base Sydney. Its a great location close to everything in the heart of Sydney. The staff was very friendly and there were nightly activities planned at the pub next door. The rooms/bathrooms were cleaned daily. At times it could get loud but for the most part with some earplugs you’d be good to go. There was definately more of a younger crowd staying there so it was perfect for me. I would totally stay there or any other Base locations again! Traveler's tip on local attractions The hostel is just a jump and skip away from Darling Harbor and the staff there can help you plan other activies close by such as Sky Tower, the aquarium, the wildlife exhibit and so much more.

Expect nothing and you won’t be disappointed. First and foremost, this hotel has no heat. Nope! The rooms, I’m told, are historic therefore there is no heater. Oh yeah, no outlets either. So charging you laptop, cell phone, having an alarm clock, some music to numb the drunk backpackers that roam the halls and streets - no can do! You have to leave your laptop/phone at the front desk and they will recharge it for you. Must be that "historic" thing. So in the winter, (which is the summer for America) you are at the mercy of the weatherman. Complain to the front desk and they will offer you an extra blanket. Nice. The kitchen isn’t much: 6 hotplates, two microwaves , and a toaster. The showers? Okay, but they need more than just one hand dryer in there. Paper towels would be nice too. But hey, this is a HOSTEL, not a hotel so learn the difference! There’s a guy who’ll announce on the loudspeaker that there’s all-you-can-drink wine or beer or whatever in the lobby every other night and you can watch the hordes come a runnin’! If you’re looking for luxury, comfort, peace & quiet - you won’t find it here. This is a place to party and crash. Consider yourself warned. Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks Avoid the commercial hop-on, hop-off bus tours. Get yourself a weekly pass that allows you to travel all the state-run bus/rail/ferries instead. At this writing it’ll run you $43, most bus tours charge close to that for the day. Sydney’s a fun place to get lost in! (The free maps that are pretty much everywhere are great.)

Great budget place Although I gave them high marks, bear in mind it is a budget place. The dorms were clean, and the shower / toilet facilities were in good modern condition. It's central loaction makes it an ideal place to stop. There's a full travel agent within the hostel and a great bar next door.

the location was perfect but unfortunately the lifts were often out of service, the rooms were standard but perfectly servicealbe, staff were friendly etc so it was ok in general, ideal for young people travelling as it was a central but security didnt seem to be 100% as there seemed to be people wandering around at all hours banging on all the doors waking the whole floor????? More security is needed for the early hours but otherwise it was ok...

I was there few days ago, the rooms are fairly spacious and they get clean everyday as well as the toilets and the kitchen. They have an issue with the shower tho...the only way to get hot water is have at least two shower running at the same time, and sometime even that doesn't work...The "sanctuary" is just a corridor with girls dorms (no singles) and it's too expensive.
