The Flushing YMCA is a branch of the YMCA of Greater New York, which was founded in 1852 as the second YMCA in the United States. In 1920, 30 YMCA members met to discuss how the organization could reach out to the 100,000 residents of Bayside, Douglaston, College Point, Flushing and Whitestone. The result was the establishment of the Flushing YMCA, which was built in 1925 and remains the cornerstone of the Flushing community. With 270 staff supported by 300 volunteers, the Flushing YMCA serves more than 15,000 young people between the ages of 1-17. In 2001 $115,000 in scholarships was provided in order to bring our services to youth and families regardless of their ability to pay. The facility boasts a diverse cultural composition, making the Flushing YMCA a welcoming center for the area. The Flushing YMCA has been serving the community for 77 years. Parents and elected officials look to the Flushing YMCA as an environment which enables children to experience and practice positive values respect, responsibility, caring and honesty. George Williams and his friends founded the YMCA in London, England in 1844 to help young men like themselves find God and provide fellowship for men moving to big cities to find work during the industrial revolution. Today, the YMCA is nonsectarian and welcomes men and women of any faith, despite its historic name the Young Men' s Christian Association. Millions of people have been introduced to sports at YMCAs. Basketball was invented by the YMCA as a winter sport by James Naismith in 1891. The game' s first professional team also came from the YMCA. Soon after, volleyball was invented at the YMCA a blend of basketball, tennis and handball. Racquetball was also started at the YMCA, as was softball and professional football. Have you ever noticed that the YMCA logo includes a red triangle? The symbol was created more than 100 years ago by a YMCA instructor to represent the unity of spirit, mind and body the philosophy of the YMCA. Members come to the YMCA not only to exercise, but to build relationships with family and friends. They volunteer to help others, especially children, who need care, guidance and recreation. The triangle symbolizes a philosophy that is as valid today as it was in the YMCA's earliest years. **Please be advised this is a hotel for the budget minded traveler.**

Considering the price you can not expect a lot of facilities. Its far from the downtown but there is a station (subway) to 300 mts. , and the line goes directly t the heart of Manhattan. Ideal for people who starts from the morning and need a place to sleep. Just one thing: the signal of internet is very poor and only is available on the second floor (until 10:30 pm) after that time you have to use the internet in the escalator. The staff was very nice.

The hotel's staff are really kind and the service is reasonable. The hotel is just 30 minutes away from manhattan. Also the neighborhood is surronded by some asian supermarkets which sell foods at good prices.

It is a very good hotel, very cheap for a privete room ion New York (just USD 65), clean and goo service (it has a little refigerator in room, and a TV of course). The only problem is the location, it is far of Manhattan. There is a Subway station very close (4 blocks) but is a long way to Manhattan (45 min aprox.). Be carefull whit the map that appearce, it is wrong, because show it near of Queensboro Plaza Station, and it is not there. The hotel is in Flushing in Main Street-Flushing Station.

Might be nice to have a "map" at the entrance of the hostel inside activities and timetables (where is the pool, sauna, etc). But a fairly good stay!

It would be great if the lobby can be opened until later at night. The internet in the corridor is really bad and it's not good to sit on the floor all night! Other than that, it's a great choice for the budget.

If you want to stay for one night, it might be OK, because it's close to JFK. Rooms are very small und not too clean. Heating was turned up to full heat and coudn not be turned down. Showers were not clean had a strange smell...just for one night, OK!

It's a safe and clean place to stay. The breakfast is very good. Though, it's a bit far away from the manhattan city. It takes 30mins+ to get there. There's not enough signs for directions/facilities. But overall, it's good.

This place wasn't too bad for the price. good bed, tv with cable, free wifi in rooms and fridge. the location isnt too great but you are close to a subway station. i checked in late at night and the guy wasnt very helpful and they didn't have change so i had to pay extra. the bathroom was one of the only things i didnt like. the curtain didnt fit so you coould see in and there wasnt anywhere to hang your stuff.
