The room looked absolutely horrible. The shared bathrooms were not as bad as I imagined. Having automated locker service and washer dryer in the basement is nice. I would probably stay here again just because it's on manhattan and the bathrooms are bearable. For first time NY visitors, definitely take the subway here. The A line goes from JFK all the way to within a few blocks from this place (2 blocks if non-express)

the lobby makes it look like it's going to be awesome..and in someways my room wasn't all that bad minus the dirty toilet/no sink/freezing cold/gross carpets....well yeah you get my point.

There was no where to hang or put my clothes. I had to kill a cockroach on the wall the first night. The bed and pillows were lumpy. I had a private room, but was sharing the bathroom with the room next door that had 6 bunk beds of men, not to mention other quests down the hall. To use the bathroom to take a shower required I get up 5 am and it was filthy. The low price and location was not worth staying in such horrible lodging! My recommendation is not to stay there under any circumstances.

room had uninvited guests with many legs bathrooms were clean, room had many critters. i know the price was right- but the bedbugs and roaches(which are citizens) of NY do not make for a pleasant stay. desk attendants polite- would not got there again.

place is pretty dam average. The prices on the website dont include state tax which is normal, but they dont tell you about the extra $3.50 per night per person they chage you for your bed...what the hell is the other $17 per night for then??!! Place is very unclean, the "fridge" is barely a bar fridge size and they wont let u use it, internet is way overpriced - $10 per day for WIFI Very average hostel overall...there are plenty of better ones around in NY for sure!

In need of a thorough cleaning I had two nights booked at this location, and only stayed the first night because I was tired from a long day and it was too late to find anything else. The lobby is cozy and the desk staff are friendly. There are computers for guests to use and wifi in the lobby, however, I had a room on the 5th floor where the wifi signal was non-existent. My room was very spartan, the mattress sagged and the bed linens were clearly well-used. There was a cable for the television which was stripped and had no connector on the end so there was no TV or cable reception. The walls and carpet were dingy and in need of a very thorough scrubbing. All evening I heard people on my floor and the floor above coming and going - there was next to no sound insulation. The bathroom was not especially clean (there were long brown hairs from someone all over the place), and the hot water came and went as I tried to take a morning shower. When I informed the front desk of my intent to check out after the first night, I was offered another room on the first floor, but upon inspection, it appeared to be in much the same condition as my original room on the fifth. Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks For around the same price, you can stay at one of the chain hotels in Jersey or near one of the airports and take mass transit back and forth from Manhattan.
