W New York - Union Square
201 Park Avenue South - 10003 New York
Opulent. Bohemian. And everywhere in between. Bridging the gap between old and new, New York's famous landmark Guardian Life Building has undergone renovations and reemerged as the stylish W New York - Union Square. The 1911 Guardian Life building - designed in the Beaux-Arts style - is a magnificent granite and limestone structure with all the exquisite details inherent in traditional European architecture. Designed by famed architect David Rockwell, W New York - Union Square combines the charm of this ethereal historic building with the contemporary W touch. But don't take our word for it - just refer to the 2003 Condé Nast Traveler's "Top 500 Hotels in the World" list. The beautiful park outside extends into our warm Living Room to welcome you. Our signature feather bed with goose down comforters and pillows beckons you. All our rooms are wired and ready to help you conquer the world. W New York - Union Square is all about service and amenities. Whatever you want. Whenever you want it. Set at the northeast corner of Union Square Park, our 270-room, 16 deluxe suite property is the first hotel on Union Square - a neighborhood relished for its fine restaurants, bars, theaters, famous green market, and boutique shops. The perks at this luxury hotel also include Rande Gerber's UNDERBAR, and Todd English's signature restaurant, Olives. Be a part of the cutting edge. Celebrate tradition.

The hotel was dark, run-down and sad looking. They blast really loud music at all hours in the lobby. The rooms were ok - the bathrooms were great - I heard they were left over from the previous hotel and not part of the new(ish) design. The staff was pretty good, but they act a little dodgy when you are checking in - the price never seems to be what you were quoted online. Overall I would avoid this place like the plague. - And the lobby decor is really funny. It would make a great entrance to a haunted mansion.

I stayed here many, many times and never had a problem. Welcome desk, food, Whatever whenever - they all were great at one time. But W must had fired all the good people who wroked there! Welcome desk didn't answer their phone during the night; Whatever whenever was where-ever?; and food - again kicked me back to Whatever - which was obviously wherever! Better get some good help again - I won't be back again!

The hotel, room included has rather a cold atmosphere to it simply because it is decorated that way. The bed was the only thing conmfortable about the room, but it was indeed very comfy. If you are high tech minded you'll probably feel right at home.

This W is bigger and better than the traditional Ws offered in more crowded locations. If you are up for an oasis of funky fun it is the one for you. Don't look for celeb hang outs or crowded bar areas. This hotel is a island of luxury. You'll have to travel to Times Square to find the happening ciruit.

Stayed in this W for work, but love going back to spend a full weekend. Away from the crowds and inevitable over-the-top Manhattan of Midtown and Times Square, but still just 10 minutes away by subway. Great restaurants and neighborhood, too... just what you need while escaping to NYC for the weekend.

I would say this is by far my favorite NY W Hotel. The location is fabulous and the staff is friendly. The bar downstairs on the ground floor is good (Underbar downstairs is slightly better) and the restaurant is great. Rooms / decor is typical W. I would recommend this hotel.
