I can not say enough great things about this hotel and the people that work there. The rooms are huge and always clean. We have stayed in several hotels in NY due to business and leisure but when we found this one it was like home away from home. Best part is you see the same people working there year after year which has to say something about management....that it is good! They know us by name and we look forward to staying there plus the shopping is fabulous :)

Feel like a New Yorker Staying at the Helmsley Carlton is like living in a stately pre-war apartment building on the Upper East Side. The suites are roomy, and though the decor in some is a little dated, they’re cozy and very clean.

Great location, lovely staff The Accomplice, a 2-hour walking treasure hunt through great neighbourhoods in Lower Manhattan, is brilliantly organized and thought through, and very good fun. I did it with my 14-year old daughter, we both loved it.

we liked the way it overlooked madison ave. the place oozed with class...from the elderly gentleman running the elevator,to the doorbell at at our door. my wife and i recommend it to everyone. we have stayed at all the big ones, from the waldorf in n.y. to the fairmont in sf. aint nothing like the helmsley in n.y.

Understated and convenient; quiet elegance Very nice pre-War building with large rooms. Have stayed here many times for the Madison Ave/Central Park/Upper East Side convenience; easy walk to mid-town. Old time style hotel staff: very personable, attentive to guests, low turnover. No on premise restaurant (although there is room service), but numerous "neighborhood" restaurants within a few block radius.

This is way New York use to be. It is like stepping back in time. Simple, classy and very New York 1950's vintage. The rooms are spacious and the location is great. The doormen and elevator operators set the tone.

Slightly Disappointed I was expecting great things of this hotel - not least because of the cost! We left our breakfast order on the door before 2am as requested, but it was never collected, so no breakfast at the required time. The heating was full tilt, but no room thermostat and it was much too noisy outside to keep the window open.Come to that, it was just as noisy with the windows shut. Double glazing would have been a plus! The staff were extremely courteous and helpful, but the hotel itself could do with a little updating.

not impressed old hotel with noisy AC, worn out bed, leaking bathroom and few choices on TV. Ad on web looked much better ( bigger place, bigger sofa, flat screen....).Food and drinks too expensive.
