Be prepared to be pampered Shopping on Madison Ave. is very convenient for those with unlimited funds but Lexington Ave. is only two blocks over and anything can be found there at a reasonable cost.

We saw a Steve Tyrell performance in the Cafe Carlyle and really enjoyed the performance. Steve has an excellent stage personality and quality voice. His approach to the music was caring and we would recommend any music lover to see him but not at the Carlyle. We spent five days in New York and being lovers of the finer things dined at most of the world renowned restaurants and hotels. The Cafe Carlyle was the absolute low point of our gastronomic experience. The tables are crowded together and once you are seated it is impossible to get out of your seat without bumping into your neighbour. We could not have a private discussion since we could hear every word our neighbours said and eventually joined in conversation with them about music etc. Luckily they were nice people and this helped. So much for a romantic evening out. The service is arrogant and one feels that if you do not order the outrageously expensive champagnes and tip the servers everytime they pass your table you are nothing in their eyes. Our server Tom approach us with book and pen in hand as if he was about to issue a parking ticket. We asked several times for some time but low and behold five minutes later here is the metermaid again.

Fabulous Madison Avenue location in the midst of world class shopping - or window shopping - with extraordinarily comfortable and luxurious rooms. I loved the heated marble floor in one bathroom I had and the drenching rain shower was so nice I hated to get out. Room service was quick and well done, I appreciated the variety of its menu, especially the comfort foods, perfect for when we needed to stay in, put our feet up and rest.

Outstanding Hotel My wife and I had a great time at the Hotel. The room was great and the service impecable. The only drawback was the food and dring prices were a little high, even for a 4 or 5 star hote.

Service was impeccable. The location here is everything. The Museums, the shopping, the restaurants and the star sightings were worth the stay.

Be prepared to be pampered This is a very upscale hotel with a competent staff who are eager to be of service. Our room was extremely comfortable, clean and very well equipped with everything from a fax machine to Q-tips. It is away from the "maddening crowd" of downtown & quiet. However, we would have enjoyed having an in room coffee pot rather than calling room service (there was coffee available in the lobby though) and even though room service was prompt bringing ice to our room it was still less convenient. The concierge service was excellent. A great hotel for people who want to be waited on and "served". We loved it but felt a little bit like Ma & Pa Clampet! Traveler's tip on shopping Shopping on Madison Ave. is very convenient for those with unlimited funds but Lexington Ave. is only two blocks over and anything can be found there at a reasonable cost.
