The Marcel at Gramery Hotel is a rather “tricky” hotel with hidden expenses. We have booked a smoking room, since this hotel is supposed to be one of the few hotels in NYC offering this option. In fact this was the reason for booking this Hotel. It

Nice hotel, friendly staff - clean and modern lobby - $11.95 per day for wireless. There are two computers with internet guests may use for free but you must pay for wireless.

My mom and I are so greatful that she found this cute little hotel through Sam's Club travel! There are still some small indications of the remodel but nothing that got in our way. The hotel is beautiful, very modern and the staff can be described ...

This was my family's first visit to NYC and I was looking for someplace economical, for NYC that is, and thought I might be taking a chance on The Marcel. We were pleasantly surprised! The room was clean big enough for us (2 adults 1...

Here are the problems I encountered at the hotel: 1) I reserved the room as smoking, and apparently, the hotel is completely non-smoking. Once I got to the room, the front desk dispatched a bellman to my room with an ashtray. So is...

The price was okay. I wasn't sure if my stay a fluke, or the hotel's normal mode of operanda? The hot water went out two days so I took two freezing showers. The air-conditioning could never effectively cool down the room. Somedays I got all my...

The hotel was great. The rooms are small but comfortable. Overall the hotel was clean and we felt safe. Customer service was excellent. Whatever we requested was brought to our room immediately. The front desk was helpful and responsive to our...

Visited the big apple for the first time for New Year week 2007. The Hotel was stylish downstairs but the room partly resembled the photos on the website. We were given 5 hangers for the small closet and their were no draws so it was literally like living out of your case. We paid for a standard twin room and received a standard double room which was not suitable for two grown men. When we asked to be to be placed in the room we paid for we were told by the lifeless desk man that they had no other rooms but we shouldn't worry as he had given us a room with a king size bed! When I explained that we were not a gay couple we were told to ask them the next day to check if they could move us. Now I'm no expert in cust services but shouldn't they be the ones checking and letting us know - not the other way around? We had to spend the entire week in that room and were only offered a roller bed which, because the room was so small would not fit. No other compensation or apology was offered. Every time we went to the desk, the same staff members were there and were very unhelpful. They could not even point us in the direction of the nights hot spots for bars and clubs. The ones they did recommend were quiet and as we later found out were in the residential districts. Other bad points were that the tv channel reception was poor, the walls were quite thin and there was a lot of traffic and neighbor room noises. We knew there was not going to be a bar or restaurant but tea making facilities would have been welcomed. There is a 24 hour shop round the corner which came in helpful. On a positive note, the door staff were very polite and helpful. The cleaners and maintenance people were also courtious and nice to talk to. The reception was well presented and the location of the hotel was in good walking distance of just about everything. Overall, the room was sufficient for an individual or a couple. The let down with this hotel was the lack of amenities and bad customer service from the front desk. If you are planning to stay here I would recommend that you confirm your room type at the time of booking, take your own water and snacks to the room, inquire elsewhere for directions and places to eat/drink. If you are looking for a good night out for the more trendy bars, jump in a taxi and ask to be taken to the Meatpacking district in Chelsea - you will find all the trendy bars and clubs for a good (but expensive) night out. Avoid Websters Hall at all costs!

The hotel room I was in had a terrible view and was very small. I asked for a different room but was told that wasn't possible. There was extensive remodeling going on during my stay, which was annoying because the only elevator (an old, slow one) ...

I've stayed at the Marcel twice now. The first visit was quite pleasant, hence the second stay. The first time there, I had a nice clean room, and not too much trouble. The one problem I did have both times was that if you book through Expedia or some other online service, they don't seem to have a clue and have to research it for an hour. I can deal with that, but my second visit, they only had a room in smoking left on the second floor. Fine with me since I smoke. I usually get non-smoking since they are often cleaner, but I figured it would be fine. The room was tiny, dirty, and had mosquitoes! When I told them and showed them the bites, they said sorry, but had no other room. The small and dirty I could deal with, but I've now got about 10 bites all over my body and face. I could hear the buzzing next to my ear at night! I've camped out and gotten less bites!
