Some of my dorm mates brought packaged food into the room despite it clearly not being allowed. As such i was kept up by the sound of rats eating it all night. gross. Guess you can't help the NY rat situation. But maybe make the food rule clear, and why its in place.

Good position, expecially if arrival in NY is in La Guardia airportThe only thing is that YOU, the Hostelsclub staff, never say that there are taxes to be paid on arrival! This is the second time that I expect a fare and @ check-in I find something more.It is not a problem for the hostel, because is in US. You, the broker, should inform customers!

I've stayed in a dorm for ten people at Jazz on the Villa. While the location is not downtown Manhattan it is quite interesting to live in Harlem, a mainly black residential area in northern Manhattan with a rich history in e.g. HipHop, Jazz and basketball (the famous Apollo Theater is just around the corner). Transportation is quite OK with the subway station to downtown Manhattan just 5 minutes away (the ride takes approx. 15min). A toilette and two showers to be shared with the other nine people was in the dorm. We had problems with a leaky roof and mice (hence(?) the rule to keep food in the shared kitchen/fridge). Apart from that cleanliness was at average for a hostel. Staff was quite nice and helpful. There is Wifi in most (all?) rooms, which is quite convenient. Overall I would recommend this hostel if you don't mind the short ride to downtown that much.
