I read the first review of this hotel 2 months after I had already made my reservations. I was apprehensive on staying there at first. I must admit that when I got there, I was actually pleasantly surprised. My room was clean, didn't smell and the staff was friendly.

good price it's a good place in New York, except the noice from the passing train. Wireless internet signal can't get into the room, so you have to bring your computer down to the lobby. And no hair dryer.

I was very disappointed with this hotel. My room was filthy! The comforter on the bed had blood stains and cigarette holes. The toilet and the bathtub were also very dirty.

This was the best Howard Johnson property I've ever stayed in. It was relatively easy to drive to, parking was free, the price was excellent for New York City, the room was well-kept, and the breakfast was good. The staff was very helpful. I can't find any real complaints. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, however. But, there is a McDonald's down the street and a Chinese (take out) restaurant nearby. The elevated train station's across the street. I was able to walk to mass (took 6 min.) on Sunday morning. I'd stay again and would recommend the place.

Not returning The condition of the rooms was deplorable --- although the graffitti was a nice touch. The wallpaper was coming down in places, and an obviously longstanding cracked mirror in the one bathroom was never repaired. The front desk staff were helpful and the service was otherwise fine. The 'complementary' breakfast was far from complimentary, and the seating area was dingy and poorly maintained. Stay here only if you have to. Otherwise steer clear.
