Hotel 17
225 East 17th Street - 10003-3635 New York
If one was asked to look for a stylish hotel in the Downtown Manhattan area of New York, with a celebrity guest list to boast of, Hotel 17 New York would be it. New York's Hotel 17 seems to be a favorite with movie directors, photographers and models who often conduct photo shoots and movie filming in the hotel's rooms. Woody Allen shot his movie “Manhattan Murder Mystery" here and celebrities like Madonna are supposed to have been guests at this hotel property. The 120 rooms at Hotel 17 New York are basic but clean and comfortable, and are provided with TV, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The rooms are furnished with simple beds, a dressing drawer, and a table. The hotel offers rooms with shared bathrooms and as well as private bathrooms. Though Hotel 17 New York does not have any in-house eatery it is close to a number of good diners in the area. Since the Hotel 17 New York is a budget hotel, one can find a lot of international tourists, single travelers and students who choose to stay in the heart of Downtown Manhattan.

Pleasantly suprised This was my first time in a shared bathroom hotel. I was very impressed with Hotel 17..I never had to wait for the bathroom , we had 4 on our floor. The place is immaculately kept...The only problem I had was our room had no heat and there was no cable. All in all I would definately go back or stay at their other property Hotel 31.

+ Hotel room compact but clean. it served its purpose well for centrally located accommodation for manhattan. communal bathrooms always clean and available despite the hotel being fully occupied. comes recommended. - Website refers to local tax automatically added to cost of room but it would be useful if website could confirm the percentage of this tax.

You get what you pay. For a short and cheap stay in NY a good choice. Rooms are tiny (thats NY) but clean. Shared bathroom on the floor - also clean and acceptable if travelling alone. Good location next to Union Square. Several breakfast choices around the corner. I would generally recommend it to young Single travellers for a short stay.

I was not aware when the room was described as 'shared bath' that that meant two bathrooms, only one of which had a sink, for the entire floor. I waited forever in the morning to brush my teeth, take a shower...finally gave up on that one. I do understand that for an additional amount I could have a private bath--I think that is definitely preferable if staying for more than one night. Otherwise, I thought the hotel was very nice, very clean, the room was predictably quite small but looked out over charming gardens of adjacent homes.

Disappointing service Spent 5 nights at Hotel 17. Overall, it was a perfectly pleasant experience, with warm comfortable rooms and a good location. My only quibble would be that the staff were certainly less than attentive to providing excellent customer service. For example, when asking for a recommendation for somewhere local to eat the man on reception made little effort to offer anything other than the grimy diner on the corner. However, overall i would consider staying there again, particularly if travelling on a budget

Large room for a budget price The hotel is in a great location for hitting either the East or West Village, skip the subways and walk the neighborhoods!

Neat and clean Perfect location which enables to walk to both up- and downtown of Manhatten. I was really scared when i had to choose a hotel in New York City as I heard so many bad stories about duirty rooms wich you have to share with little disgusting animals. Therefore, I was more than positive surprised: this hotel is really clean and especially the shared bathrooms are in a tip-top condition. I would choose it again. The place is ok quiet as well, you cannot hear your nabours, only the heating (typical old American system). There is not much natural light in the room but I did not care - only needed a room for the nights!
