Hotel 17 is located in a great neighborhood. The hotel itself is very nice and I thought the room was very comfortable. I didn't smell anything on my mattress; however, I use pillows and didn't rest my head directly on the mattress itself. Despite this one complaint, I was very impressed with the hotel and would stay there again when I visit New York City.

I really enjoyed the layout and architectural appeal the hotel had! My room was just the right size for myself. The bed was VERY comfortable and I loved the vanity and personal sink! I would have to say that I was a little disappointed that there were no vending machines or refrigerators for someone staying for a few days.

After a number of hotels that were far from satisfactory, I found the Hotel 17 to be quite pleasant. The neighborhood is very pretty, across from two parks, and near a major medical center. There are wonderful restaurants within walking distance, and busses are only one block or so away going in either direction. The hotel is well kept and clean, and the staff generally polite and courteous. The room is nicely organized, with a sink in the room, and two bathrooms in the hallway for each hall section. There is a small, tidy, open closet for clothes and suitcases, a desk, chair, bed, and tv, which worked quite well. The phone worked fine, and had voice mail, which is always a plus. The heater worked so well, that I actually had to open the window a crack, so as not to be too hot. Housekeeping was prompt, and my room was always clean, when I returned. Overall, I'd rate the hotel a solid 8 out of ten, and would recommend it to others. For someone on a moderate budget, this hotel is worth the price, in my opinion.

I was meeting my college-aged children, and when I said it was a European-style hotel, they both inquired whether towels would be provided. The answer is Yes, plentiful, daily, soft and white. Our room was compact but well laid out, and having the sink in the room made sharing toilet / shower with other rooms on the floor no problem at all. We could tell that renovations are recent and constant. We loved the neighborhood, nearby restaurants, coffee places(where we did some star-sighting!) and hotel's friendly staff. There is a slow, but great old-fashioned lift to help you to upper floors. The bathrooms are cleaned so often that you can't tell anyone else uses them, and we like the convenience of all being able to take showers at the same time. There is daily maid service, and bags are secured by staff if you need before/after check-in luggage storage. Also, despite claims that there is no Internet, we logged on from an unsecured line from our room. How 'bout dem apples?

Our first room was in need of rehab but the second room they moved us too was fine. The location was fantastic.

Hotel 17 was a great place to stay for my family's visit to NYC. We spent very little time in the room because we spent most of our time in Time Square. Although the room was small, it was very clean. The beds were hard, but we were so tired we slept fine. The check-in person, was very nice and helpful. He even had an umbrella that I could borrow for the unexpected rain. The bathroom and shower are located across the hall from the rooms. There was never a wait and the water was hot.

The room was as small, but very clean and comfortable for its size. I had my own sink in the room and there was never a serious problem getting into the shared bathroom - which was also remarkably clean. The hotel is worth it for the elevator alone - funky antique in a good way. The hotel was quiet at night and no safety concerns about the neighborhood. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, but the very real benefit was the price.

I was really concerned with the fact the rooms shared a bathroom, but it was just like home. For the price of the hotel I was real satisfied. I would stay there again.
