Hotel 17 is a charming, central and priceworthy NY-hotel. The location is great, only a few minutes walk to Union Square. The rooms are clean. The lobby is charming, and the staff is very helpful. They told us where we could get great breakfast, they had a room where we could store our luggage after checking out until we left for the airport (free) and they had a great taxideal for the airport, to mention a few things. All positive!

The location of the hotel is very convenient to the subway. However, if there is a coffee in the room, it would be nicer. For a rate likethis, I think a kettle for a instant coffee should be expectable.

Affordable The room was tiny, but it’s New York and I expected that. Sharing the bathrooms was not an issue but the hallway smelled like urine. A/C was missing knobs and the view out of the window was literally a brick wall, gotta love NY. Staff was very friendly and it is a great location.

Nice, clean place to stay Hotel appeared popular (e.g., busy at check-in, repeat guests, etc.). Shared bathrooms were kept clean. This hotel has a "no guests after 10:00" policy. Traveler's tip Hotel is close to (3-4 four blocks away) two subway stations. There is a nice diner a block to the west.

Cold shower This hotel is fairly clean and comfortable but my morning shower had no hot water. I realize that the bathrooms are shared by several rooms on each floor, but they need to update their water heaters to accomodate all the guests.

very affordable for New York I was very pleasantly surprised with Hotel 17. It is older, but that adds to the character. Elevator is all wood which had a nice charm. The Halfway was a little warm, but the a/c in my room worked very well... I could hardly tell that anyone had used the restrooms or showers, very clean. Did enough having the sink in my room. Hotel service was great too. they were helpful with suggestions and did store my luggage after I checked out until I left for the airport. Will definitely stay again. Traveler's tip on local attractions bought an unlimited metro pass for 7 day’s - only $25 which covered all buses and subways. Cabs weren’t very expensive either. Tourist Information desk at grand central station was very helpful too... bought a shuttle ticket to and from airport when I landed (go to transporation information desk near exit). cheaper to buy both at the same time for #21 rather than $24 separately.

Great New York Pension type Hotel Great Clean Budget Hotel for people who like the European, small pension type hotel. Very well kept. Nice furnishings and interior architecture. Staff was very friendly. Bath was down the hall but it was very clean.

Nice place, good location and cheap! I liked Hotel 17 because it was in a nice location that afforded me easy access to the lower East side, Soho, Greenwich Village, but the price wasn’t through the roof. The showers are separate, but they are well kept and I never had a problem getting in when I needed to and there was always hot water. I would recommend Hotel 17 for anyone who wants to travel on a budget but doesn’t want to sacrifice when it comes to location. Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks If there are menus outside a restaurant check prices before you go in so that you won’t be blown away. Also, many restaurants provide press they have received in the window so you can see what’s good!
