Wow... I don't understand how these other reviews could be for the same place that I stayed this past weekend in NY.

My friend and I decided to stay at Columbus Studios for some unkown reason, even after reading a plethora of terrible reviews. Nothing about this place was safe or sanitary by any means. My friend and I were not looking for anything nice at all, just a place to sleep for cheap while we explored the city on our college budget. Well, a few more dollars would have been well spent some place else- seeing as we only stayed there one night because the conditions were so horrific. We were sent to the sketchy building next door, which didnt even lock, so our keys were useless. There was filth everywhere. There was hair, yes a wad of disgusting, straggly hair, protruding from a hole in the wall. There was an enormous cockroach in the bathroom. And, not to mention, drug dealers, homeless people, and prostitutes seeking shelter. The location and cheap price was what attracted us, but it was NOT worth it. This place must be stopped. It is a scam and beyond unsafe and unsanitary!!! STAY AWAY!

this is not a hotel, it's a shelter for homeless people. smell of cat urine, dirty walls, dirty stinky carpets on the floors, no furniture, no curtains, no heating in the rooms, bathrooms look as if they survived nuclear war. we couldn't stay there for more than 15 minutes and had to look for another place to stay. strongly not recommended.

Bad Bourbon St. bar around the corner is a good place to watch a game and has $.50 beers on Thursday.

After reading the terrible reviews, it was with fear and trepidation we arrived at the hostel, preparing ourselves for the worst. I am relieved to say our stay was pleasant. The building is old, there are no elevators, but the rooms and bathrooms are clean, safe and tidy, the personnel for the most part very pleasant, the price reasonable, and the neighborhood excellent. Keep your valuables in your room rather than at the front counter, and enjoy New York from a great location. We would definitely go back.
