This is really a marvellous place to stay! We loved it. We really don't want to advertize too much because we' ll want to come back!!

Chic and Budget 131 is a really wonderful guest house and we don't think you'll find a cheaper accomodation in whole New York City. The atmosphere is tie, there's a little kitchen with tea, coffee and other drinks for free. Everything's new, chic and has a first-class quality. We never expected such a nice accomodation for this favourable price.

Really nice rooms and the owner, Bert, was friendly and very helpful. Not too far away from the metro. We were unsure about the location, but had no problems and felt safe walking down the road at 11 at night so we were happy. Enjoyed our stay and really liked being within easy reach of the city centre.

Bert is a nice guy and very helpfull. We liked the atmosphere, all was good. We'll come again.

Hotel allgemein//Hotel Das Chic&Budget 131 Guesthouse ist ein aus drei Zimmern bestehendes Appartment in einem schönen historischen Brownstone Townhouse in Harlem. Es verfügt über eine komplett ausgestattete Küche welche von allen Gästen als Gemeinschaftsküche genutzt werden kann. Die Küche ist, wie der Rest des Guesthouses, jederzeit in einem tadellosen Zustand. Ebenfalls gibt es einen kleinen Gemeinschaftsraum mit Couch und Essecke. The Chic & Budget 131 Guesthouse is a 3-bedroom-apartment in a beautiful historic brownstone building in Harlem. It's equipped with a complete kitchen which can be used by every guest in the apartment. The kitchen is, like all the rest of the house, spick and span. Likewise there's a small common room with a couch and dining area. Lage/Umgebung//Location Das Guesthouse liegt in der 131. Straße Ecke Frederick Douglass Blvd. im Stadtteil Harlem in Manhattan. Sowohl vom Flughafen Newark International als auch vom John F. Kennedy ist es in ca 45 Minuten mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln sehr gut zu erreichen. Durch die hervorragende Verkehrsanbindung, die Metro Station in der 125. Straße ist fußläufig nur 5 Minuten entfernt, erreicht man das Stadtzentrum um den Times Square in ca 15 min. Die friedliche Umgebung lässt einem bereits bei Ankunft den schlechten und durchaus veralteten Ruf Harlems als „No-Go-Area“ vergessen. Zahlreiche kulturelle Highlights wie authentische Jazzclubs mit Live Band entführen einen zurück in die glorreiche Zeit des Jazz der 50er und 60er Jahre. Auch das weltberühmte Apollo Theater, Heimat von Musikerlegenden wie Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald und James Brown befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft. In der Umgebung befinden sich viele kleine Restaurants und Delis die mit gutem Essen zu günstigen Preisen zu begeistern wissen. Wer lieber selber kochen möchte, findet an jeder Ecke kleine Lebensmittelläden in denen man sich rund um die Uhr mit Lebensmitteln versorgen kann. The Guesthouse is situated at 131st Street at Frederick Douglass Blvd., Harlem in Manhattan. From both Newark International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Aiport it's very easy to reach in about 45 minutes by train. Due to the excellent transport connection, the next Metro station at 125th Street is only a five minute walk away, it only takes about 15 minutes to get to midtown and the Theater District. The peaceful neighbourhood lets you forget the bad and quite outdated reputation of Harlem as a "No-Go-Area" right at arrival. Numerous cultural highlights like authentic jazz clubs with live bands take you back into the glorious time of Jazz in the 50s. Also the world-famous Apollo theater, home of musical legends like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and James Brown is in the direct vicinity as well as various Delis and small restaurants that can thrill you with delicious food for small prices. Those who prefer to cook for themselves can find a lot of grocery stores all around the area where you can buy almost everything 24/7. Service Wer authentischen und wunderbaren Service sucht wird hier auf jeden Fall fündig. Der Besitzer des Guesthouses, Bert, ist rund um die Uhr sowohl per Telefon als auch persönlich erreichbar da er nur lediglich eine Straße weiter wohnt. Er wartet mit grandiosen Insidertipps auf die in keinem Reiseführer zu finden sind und einem New York von einer völlig anderen Seite zeigen. So ging er zum Beispiel mit uns an einem Abend in einen Jazzclub der uns schwer beeindruckt hat. Ebenfalls brachte er uns den Meatpacking District mit seinem weltweit einzigartigen Nachtleben näher. Der persönliche und lockere Umgang mit den Gästen lässt einen kaum mehr daran denken das man sich im Urlaub und nicht zu Besuch bei einem guten Freund befindet. „You come as a stranger and leave as a friend“ trifft hier vollkommen zu! If you are looking for authentic and marvellous service, the Chic & Budget is definitely the right place for you! The owner of the guesthouse, Bert, lives only one block away and can be contacted by phone around the clock. He gave us some really good tips where to go out in New York and told us a lot of things you wouldn't find in a travel guide! He also took us to a really cool jazz club that one night, that deeply impressed us and showed us the Meatpacking District with its unique nightlife. The personal and relaxed company lets you almost forget that you're on vacation and not visiting an old friend. As Bert once said: " You come as a stranger and leave as a friend!" Gastronomie//Gastronomy In der Nähe des Guesthouses befinden sich zahlreiche kleine Restaurants, so wie z.b. das ihop wo man ein wunderbares Frühstück bekommt. Wenn man nach Restaurants sucht, kann man gerne bei Bert nachfragen, er weiß wunderbare kleine Lokale zu empfehlen, die sehr gut per Fuß oder Bahn zu erreichen sind. Ebenfalls kann man in der perfekt ausgestatten Küche wunderbare Gerichte zaubern und an dem Esstisch, der Platz für 4 Personen bietet, zu sich nehmen. Man findet auch an jeder Ecke kleine Stände die morgens Bagels anbieten und am Nachmittag Hot Dogs zu sehr kleinen Preisen. Everywhere around the guesthouse you can find numerous restaurants like ihop where you can get a great breakfast. Don't hesitate to ask Bert when you are looking for a nice place to have dinner! He knows a lot of beautiful places that are reachable on foot easily! As already mentioned you can also just cook for yourself in the perfectly equipped kitchen. Sports Sportlich haben wir uns zwar nicht betätigt, weil wir dazu einfach keine Zeit hatten, jedoch bietet der nach nur einer Station erreichbare Central Park zahlreiche sportliche Aktivitäten. So kann man z.B. wunderbar dort joggen oder sich ein Fahrrad ausleihen. We didn't do any sport at all but the very close Central Park which is only one station from 125th Street Station away offers several opportunities to do that. For instance you can rent a bike or jog through the beautiful Park. Zimmer/ Rooms Die Zimmer sind für diese Preiskategorie einfach unglaublich und scheuen keinem Vergleich mit einem 4 oder 5 Sterne Hotel. Alles ist mit Parkettboden ausgelegt, die Betten haben amerikanisches Ausmaß und sind wunderbar bequem. Jedes Zimmer hat sein eigenes, sehr gepflegtes Bad, welches komplett gefliest ist. Wir hatten eine Sagrotan Flasche dabei für den Fall der Fälle jedoch ist diese nie zum Einsatz gekommen, da alles so sauber war wie man es sich wünscht. Ebenso verfügt jedes Zimmer über einen Flachbildfernseher und einen Sattelitenreciever der über 150 Programme empfangen kann und eine Dockingstation für den Ipod bzw. das Iphone mit der man Musik hören kann. Die Zimmer sind seh groß und beiten genug Platz. Die beiden hinten gelegenen Zimmer bieten einen Blick in den Garten und von dem einem Zimmer hat man sogar Zugang zu diesem. The rooms are just incredible, especially for this small amount of money! Every room has parquet flooring, a queen-size bed, a radio with an iPod/iPhone docking station and a flat screen tv. Every room has its own bathroom which is outside the room. The bathroom is completely tiled and always clean. We had a bottle of desinfectant with us but never had to use it! The rooms are pretty big and offer enough space. Two out of three rooms have a view on the backyard and from one of them you have even direct access to it. Bert also told us that he wants to install Wifi for Internet Access for the guests, so that they can book tickets for the Empire State Building or other events.
