Chambers Hotel New York
15 W 56 Street - NY 10019 New York
members of design hotels TM. This Soho property with a Midtown address is in the center of famous 5th avenue shopping that includes Gucci- Fendi- Louis Vuitton and Prada. The location is significantly close to the uptown galleries and cultural highlights of New York; MOMA- Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Inspired by the downtown art scene and neighboring International fashion houses- Chambers combines the industrial feel of an artists loft with the luxuriousness of traditional fabrics; it feels like a wealthy art collectors Manhattan townhouse. Over 500 original artworks from the brightest up-and-coming artists are installed throughout the guestrooms- all part of a permanent collection. Fourteen other famous artists- including filmmaker John Waters- were commissioned to create pieces for each of the hotels floors. A two-story fireplace dominates the Chambers lobby accentuated with leather covered columns and a large ebony and parchment reception desk. Alpaca sofas- oversized wooden and steel doors and distressed plaster walls instill an urban- yet relaxing atmosphere. Ride up in elevators with lit- exposed shafts to view the mechanics of the cables. The 77 guestrooms feature platform beds covered in the finest of linens and cashmere throws. Felt ottomans in modern earth tones are set on Tibetan and Turkish rugs over walnut floors. Look inside the minibar to find mood-making scented candles and colored light bulbs. The most outstanding feature of some of the suites is the terrace. Already a rarity in Manhattan- some of these are large enough to accommodate launch parties in need of a view overlooking New Yorks cityscape. As if Chambers was not exquisite enough on its own- TOWN restaurant and bar serves contemporary New York cuisine. The space is separated into an intimate balcony with low tables and settees- perfect for conversation. The main dining area has soaring 24-foot high ceilings- theatrical lighting- backlit screens- decorative crystal strands and mirrors

I thought this hotel was very stately. I found it to be uniquely elegant and very crisp looking. At the same time it felt very comfortable and so i would really recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The Chambers Hotel would not honor reservations that that were confirmed both by phone and in writing (by email). Who can risk dealing with a hotel that pulls a stunt like this?

The physical space in the lobby is great, as is the independently operated "Town" restaurant. But the rooms are clutterd, dirty, and worn. Worst, however, is the staff - or lack thereof. Imagine paying upwards of $500 per night at a hotel that does not have (and never had) a concierge. The young doomman, if there is one on duty, serves sort of as the concierge ... and will be glad to steer you to any number of characterless dives affordable on a doorman's budget. Forget asking for anything beyond a lousy restaurant recommendation. Actually, the doormen are perfectly good guys, but this just should not be their job, and they do not do it effectively. This is just one example among many of the totally amatuerish "service" in all respects.

This is by far the most amazing trendy hotel I have stayed at. On the street you do not even know it's a hotel. Once you figure it out, you walk through 2 wood doors of massive size into a duplex lobby. But you don't have to push the doors yourself, when you have 2 doormen welcoming you with open arms. Tell them you are guest and you need to check in and you are escorted to the front desk that awaits on the right. The front desk staff was so great! From booking restaurants down to getting hours and locations of places to shop. As the friendly smile welcomes you checking in, you will notice the lobby seating area. A great place to unwind, have a cocktail from the TOWN bar and maybe just relax before being secluded in a hotel room. Pieces of art hang on the walls throughout the lobby and hallways. Each guest floor has a different art. The design is modern and still comfortable. A desk is provided, CD's are provided for your CD/Alarm clock which plays mellow tunes to set the mood. The bath room is large with an 8-inch showerhead which I absolutely want one. And I can't forget the location...you are in the middle of Midtown...so close to Central Park, Times Square, the theatre district. If you are going to stay at a hotel in NYC and you want to be in the mist of it all, this is the place to stay.
