Just spent 5 days at Astor on the Park, we found the rooms stylish and the staff very helpful and friendly. Situated on 106th, facing Central Park, just far enough north to get away from the rush of downtown, but not to far that it's a pain to get into the rush of it all. Does not have many amenities, but provides a great base to discover NY from. Would recommend, worth a visit.

Astor-on-the-park is ideal for those travelling on a budget. It was extremely clean throughout, with friendly and helpful staff. It is situated at the top end of central park which may put people off as it is not a central location but it is 5-10mins from Times Square by taxi (~$12). The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean and include a private en-suite bathroom. The only thing we has issues with was the noise of the heating coming on in the morning- a perfect alarm clock for those wanting to leave early and see the sights, otherwise bring earplugs. Be aware also, the continental breakfast advertised is nothing more than a cup of tea or coffee- there is no kitchen facilities in the hotel so room service is also out of the question.

Astor on the Park is located at the north part of Central Park. While I did enjoy the lovely view of the park, it was really far from the stuff we wanted to do. There is a subway stop about 2 blocks south but only the C train stops there during the day. There is another stop about 3 blocks west but only the 1 train stops there. So we had to be careful to coordinate our times/stops.

pros: next to central parkit is located right next to central park. that is only good thing about this hotel. the room is small and dirty even expensive. can not use wireless internet without paying extra charge. kinda far away from the tourist area ...

After days of pulling my hair out trying to find a hotel i could afford, I came across the Astor for only 55 dollars a night! This was well below my expectations for that I had to pay. I figured because it was so cheap, I shouldnt expect to much but we absolutely love it. It was directly across from central park, right next to the subway, and beside alot of neat little resturants. We have great indian food late, and breakfast at a cute little place around the corner. Out room also had a bit of a veiw of the city. Its far away, but quit and nice to look at. We are planning on staying here again this christmas (which is the best time to be in NY). I would def. reccomend this place!

I arrived at Astor on the Park a couple of days after opening. The reception area was fine (as in the pictures) but when I got to my room, there was no duvet/cover on the bed, the carpet was full of paint marks and the wardrobe was placed right in front of the window! Strange I thought!- not that there was much of a view anyways. When I originally saw this hotel advertised. it was claimed as 'Home away from Home' - hmmm anything but! I asked to change rooms and the room I got was slightly better. Clean and comfortable, rooms were made up every day with fresh towels etc. If you are in NY you don't spend much time in your hotel room then this is was perfect, but if you are wanting a few more luxuaries away from home then I would not suggest it. There was no fridge, tea or coffee making facilities and certainly no room service. There is a little shop down the block but not all that much to choose from. To be honest I would have spent an extra $50US a night to be more central with a few more luxuaries for the price.

pros: cheap, location, Free parkingThis hotel was newly remodeled in 2000...all the decor is very modern with hues of brown/beige. The rooms are small but that is to be expected in NY. At least you have a private bathroom...which some hotels don't ...
