While the staff was very friendly and service oriented, this was one of the most ridiculous of the 100+ nights I have spent in a NYC hotel! In my first room (which was so small, I hurt myself when I turned around) the telephone didn't work. After 3 visits from the non-English speaking "facilities guy," the apologetic front desk clerk gave me a new room. While this room was no bigger, at least it didn't look onto the airshaft covered with pigeon droppings. All was well until I returned to my room at 11:00PM and tried to turn on the heat to take the chill off the 60 degree room. No heat. No facilities guy. No other rooms. No luck. While the Sushi restaurant in the lobby is "happening", it was the only kitchen functioning. Breakfast was stale pastries and lukewarm coffee while room service was a 3-ring binder of NYC delivery services. If you are a fasting Liliputian, this is a great place. Otherwise, go down the street or around the corner.

We just got back from a long weekend in New York and a wonderful stay at 6 Columbus. Firest let me say that the concierge Rocks! Raquel and Eric were amazing at setting up a series of events for my partner's birthday celebration. Everything was perfection. The room at 6 Columbus was very large for New York. We booked a Studio Suite which had a balcony almost as big as the room. Everything about 6 Columbus is very cool. The room lighting/linens furniture and bathroom are all top notch. Blue Ribbon Sushi was fatastic too! I would highly recommend this boutique hotel for anyone who likes a little "edgy swank" in the hotels.

I got a good rate from Quikbook and decided to risk staying at a new hotel. I was unaware that this was a much hyped hotel until reading some web postings. If I could afford a bigger room, I'd consider coming back there to stay in that area again Positive * room was clean * everything worked well -- front desk had my reservation, room key worked first try. All components worked fine -- lights, sink, toilet, shower, TV, etc. * ipod charger was a nice touch * good location -- but entrance is actually on 58th street Negative * room was tiny -- about 12 ft x 12 ft -- no desk, no chair -- no stand to place the suitcase -- I had to leave it on the floor and ended up tripping on it several times * design elements were lost on me -- fur in the lobby and elevator was described by one employee as "pony fur". * photo over the bed didn't do much for me -- a photograph showing feet wearing high heel shoes sticking up in a car, with an airplane flying overhead * phone rang in the middle of the night -- no one was there * window faced airshaft

I actually booked a room at this hotel as a back up if Priceline didn't work out, but we decided to give it a shot. I am so glad we did! I was traveling to NY for an overnight with a friend. We wanted a good location and something besides your average bland, boring hotel room. You get it here! Six Columbus is located just a block off of Columbus Circle, and is super convenient to restaurants, the subway, Central Park and lots of shopping. My friend and I arrived in the city early after an abrupt change in plans and we stopped by the hotel around noon hoping we could leave our bags. However, they went above and beyond and let us have a room then. The staff was top notch~ everyone from the door men to the front manager, Saye, were helpful, polite and respectful. They repeatedly went out of their way to serve us. The hotel has a very modernist feel to it. It is very much a boutique hotel and what I consider to be one of the things that makes New York so unique. We had a King Superior room and It was smallish, mainly due to the size of the bed. However, it was worth it as the bed was WONDERFUL. And who does anything in a NY hotel room but collapse into bed after a day and night on the town, anyway? The bathroom was great as well with a deep tub, beautiful floor to ceiling tile and bath amenities by Fresh. The absolute only complaint I have about the entire hotel is the placement of the bathroom mirror. I am 5' 3" and I had to stand on my toes to see my nose in the mirror. It is not adjustable and the only other mirror is a full length one in the foyer. This made it difficult to apply makeup. However, I managed! One thing I loved was a small touch~ practically every light in the room, and there are many, has a dimmer. I love that attention to detail. There is a cozy Frette robe and an umbrella in the room available for rainy days. Also, there is a wonderfully stocked mini bar with treats from Dean and Deluca. Also~ GASP~ the prices were reasonable! The Dean and Deluca goodies were actually the same price that they are in the store. Also, there is a fun little extra called a "Shag Bag" and yes, it includes exactly the kind of items you are thinking it does! Plus, Bouchon Bakery does a wonderful continental breakfast in the lobby, and is located right across the street in the Time Warner Building for a little follow-up treat in the evening! So, bottom line is if you want to go to New York and feel like you stayed in a New York hotel, this is your place. You will not feel like you are walking into a Marriott by any stretch! I would definitely visit again.

Take a very old, tired hotel, give it some fancy decor and duvets, put cow hide in the elevators and you've got 6 Columbus. The walls are paper thin, the plumbing is noisy, the doors are only able to close with a slam and the narrow hallways carry echoes and the sound of your neighbors talking. Add to that the view of an airshaft covered in bird droppings and a window splatted with concrete that the owners haven't bothered to have cleaned off and I submit this hotel as the worst night's sleep I've ever had. In the morning I asked to speak to the hotel manager. The guy at the desk named Saye said he was the manger. I asked are you THE manager, again he said yes. I politely told him about my problems and he said he could only apologise but no-one else had complained. Note: the hotel had only been open 3 weeks, so no exactly a great record. I asked for his card and he gave me it along with his title - Assistant Front Desk Manager. Yes, he lied that he was THE manager of the hotel. He refused to accept any responsibility for the quality of the hotel or my visit and simply turned his back on me and walked into the back office. And the cost for all of this? $400 for a 10X12 foot room.

Stayed at 6 Columbus for two nights over Marathon weekend. While the address is listed as 6 Columbus Circle, note that the front door is actually on 58th Street, just west of 8th Avenue, so don't go driving around the Circle looking for it. The marquee has a big lit "6" on it, so pretty easy to spot once you know where to look. Excellent work by all the staff during my stay, from the doormen (who managed to get me a cab during post-Marathon chaos) to front desk staff (who actually seemed pleased to welcome you and interested in how your stay was). Smaller lobby, often full in the evenings of people waiting to get into the Blue Ribbon Sushi resto, but very comfortable and stylish. Had reserved through Quikbook and had no problems with the reservation. Wasn't able to get the King I had requested, but got a Queen at a reduced rate instead. Have paid more at the midtown Hilton for less. Not a big deal. Room was quite spacious given that this is an older, refurbished hotel, and in New York. Great LG flat screen, iPod dock/clock radio, mini-bar and easy to work safe. Brilliant bed and linens, although I echo one of the previous reviews about being careful of the platform bed corners! Travelling alone and for a short time, I had no issues with clothes space, although a longer stay with two people might face a challenge. Good sized bathroom with heated floor. Shower with superb pressure, drainage and hot water. Only complaint is that the shower itself is a little narrow, so a couple of funny bones were hit over the course of the weekend. However, a small price to pay for a hot pounding shower that didn't leave you standing in six inches of soapy water by the end. My room was towards the rear of the hotel, so no 58th Street noise, although there was a bit of noise from the ventilation system, whether in my room or in the large vent outside or both, but not a big disturbance. Understand that a bi-level rooftop bar will be opening soon, and that will be a great addition to a very solid hotel. Assuming they keep the quality up after the high of opening (which just happened in October), this will be one to remember for the future.

Surprised by excellence of this hotel; welcoming staff, nice atmosphere (good music everywhere), lovely design and heavenly beds. We've booked the hotel directly and did get a good deal for a hotel of this category. Location was good because of many metro-connections, nice area with many locations for breakfast (Pain Quotidien etc). We were very happy to have been staying in this upmarket area instead of Times Square and other midtown locations

We chose to stay in Six Columbus because of the great location and reviews found here at TripAdvisor. I would recc. this hotel to those looking to explore the city and indulge themselves at a boutique hotel. The hotel was very clean and the staff was quite helpful and courteous. The location is top notch directly across from the shops at Columbus Circle which houses a Whole Foods which is perfect for a tasty and inexpensive breakfast. Next door to the hotel is Starbucks, a bit further you will find a Duane Reade and Dunkin Donuts. You will find Central Park 2 minutes away and Times Square is a quick 12-15 minute walk from the hotel. Many subways are literally found right outside the front door of the hotel. We had a weak wireless internet signal that was not protected, minimal noise from inside or outside the hotel, newspaper each morning and the best mini-bar and snacks I've ever seen. Our room was a good size - Queen superior and loads of space for all of our luggage. The few downsides we noticed were: The heater did not heat up the room (I wanted 82 and it would only reach 69). I had to sleep with a hoodie on for two nights to keep warm. We notified the front desk twice and upon check out we were told it was a problem within the entire hotel and they were working on it. Very strange that the cleaning staff NEVER left the right amount of towels - not even when we checked in. First day no hand towels, then no face towels, then again no hand towels. Very strange, but housekeeping quickly bought up the towels when requested. Lastly, we could not get a seat in the bar or dining area on the two nights we tried. Yes, we could have called ahead, but as a guest at any other hotel I've stayed in this has never been a cause for concern. Even with the few downsides, I'd stay here again.

Found this hotel mostly by reviews on this website and others, and due to the fact that it had a really nice daily rate compared to other, trendy hotels in NYC. I have lived in NYC but not visited much (and usually stayed with friends and family when I did) and therefore have very little to compare this to with regards to other Manhattan hotels. Overall my wife and I really liked the hotel. The room was very nice, clean, and with a comfortable bed and a nice TV. It was also very small with a view of an airshaft and a tub made for a Hobbit. Having lived in a small place in Manhattan myself this did not bother me much, but I can see someone not used to such cosy quarters having trouble with it. Only other problems were that they kept having laundry delivery problems resulting in not having washcloths for two days... Also give you the Post (the Post??) and the Wall Street Journal is in the lobby; are they also in the Rupert Murdoch empire? To be fair they did offer to send someone out to get me the Times, but it wasn't worth having to tip the same price as the paper. The location is great with easy access to A,C,B,D,1,2,3 trains, Central Park, Midtown, and UWS and the Village. I was really impressed with the bar at Blue Ribbon Sushi (bartenders were awesome) and the food was good. Unfortunately the sushi was inferior to the fried chicken which was great. Go for the alcohol. Overall it was a nice week and a nice hotel. Would definitely stay there again if for no other reason than it is a nice place in a good location.
