The appartment lies in a very central position, about 200 mt from Times square. Very good for max 4 people. Too noisy due to a construction in front of... a good squeeze for waking up in the morning :)

Great Place, excellent location to everything. If you wanted to walk this would be the place. The bed mattress needs to be replaced, other than that excellent all the way.

Don't even try booking a place here!My girlfriend went to New York in October 2005 and after looking at several hotels we found these apartments for daily and weekly rents. The price was reasonable and the pictures on the internet seemed fine. They are not true!!! We got to our location after a very long trip from Italy, around 11pm.Nobody was there to great us!!No phone number we had as reference was answering. After standing over an hour on a solitary road,in the cold, quite surprised and quite frightened we got inside the building and tried buzzing at the first door.It was opened, the lights were on and it was ready for us!So we went in, feeling quite weird, and started unpackinig. The place smelt so bad. After killing a couple of cokroaches, we got into bed and the linens weren't fresh, we found hair in it.No comment about the kitchen sink.During the night it would fill up with dirty water mixed to washing-up liquid. The bathroom was the unhealthiest place I've ever seen.Hair, and dirt everywhere. We had already sent a wire transfer, with half of the balance due, so we had to at least stay 4 nights. The most terrible of my life, dust and dirt was everywhere and we just couldn't stop sneezing. After 4 days of trying to contact the innkeepers we NEVER got answer, but just notes telling us we had to pay the remaining balance.I think they didn't have the courage to meet us or the other guests ( we met a spanish couple that weren't able to see the innkeepers either) as the place was so terrible and not at all worth $174 per night. We luckily found a much better place for the same money and moved out for the last 4 nights. If we'd stayed there our hard-earned holiday would've been ruined. There's many more terrible details I could add, but I'll keep it short WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T GO TO 1291sleep!!!The photos are NOT TRUE and the place is run by ghosts!!!

Just to clear up confusion that caught me after I had booked at SWISS 1291, SLEEP 1291 is a different hostel. Not sure why the names are similar, as they sound very different. Swiss 1291 is on 55th St, and although expensive for very basic accommodation, is clean, friendly, staffed all day and evening, and safe. By the sounds of it though, make sure you aren't booking at the wrong place.

My wife and I just stayed at this accommodation over the past weekend and were generally pretty happy. We stayed in the Gold Room and it was clean and the bed was no less or more comfortable than any other hotel bed. We had a working fridge and full cable in our room. The communal Bathroom was also clean, but the stairwell could use a mopping, but was not unsanitary or totally disgusting either. There are 2 parking garages on 55th st near the hotel; one is the east and the other to the west. Parking is $25 a day. The important thing for anyone to bear in mind when staying at this place is that it is reminiscent of a HOSTEL and not a HOTEL. Anyone used to accommodations in the UK ought to be used to this caliber of room. Heck, I once spent the night in London in a place that cost a lot more and was a lot crappier! In life you get what you pay for and there are certain trade off's. If you want a prettier hotel room in New York be prepared to either spend three times the money or go far outside the city center. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this room other than it is not fancy or the most esthetically pleasing. This is what keeps the costs down. You can either sacrifice this, or 2-3 times the money. Here what you see is what you get; the pictures are very accurate of what you get and they are not a misrepresentation of any kind. The only complaint I have about this place is that they didn't tell us that they didn't accept credit cards only cash or traveler's cheques over the phone. If you are not too fussy about style and want a decent and safe (NYPD Midtown percent on neighboring block 54th street) place to stay this is the place for you. If you are like me, you are not coming to New York to see the hotel room, just to see the city! You can either put your money into hitting the town or where you hit the mattress. The choice is yours.

The place wasn't that clean, and the price & location is the only reason why you would go there. It might be that the cleaning staff is not good at the moment as I've sign ads for cleaning staff hunting. By the way, the subway is close as Broadway, Times Square and Central Park. Don't expect too much by the way.

This hostel look amazing from their website. I thought I was going to stay at a clean and modern place close to the best attractions at a fraction of the cost; however, you pay for what you get. The hotel was very humid inside because they do not use a/c all the time. The main hostel area was very old, and it did not look totally clean. The room was small. It had nowhere to sit, but it did have a fridge. It, however, looked exactly as I suspected from the website, but the shared bathroom was rediculous. Only once in four days did somebody come and clean it. The tub/shower had been clogged, and the hotel services left it from day two until after we left. I had to, unfortunately avoid showering after day two, and I waited until the fourth day when I got home. If you want a not-so-clean place at a cheap price, then stay here. If you want some sort of romantic getaway or anything of that matter, DON'T STAY HERE. If I were to go to New York again, I would pay the extra $100/night to stay at a nicer location where I could spend time in the room and not be disgusted by the dirty walls or uncared for washroom.

HELL must be a better place than this one! We booked the place when it was still called 1291 Sleep, but it did not turn out anything like the fotos on the website. Nobody there to open the place on arrivel. The place looked like a real dump. There we were with our confirmation e-mails trying to get in when a person perfectly stoned opened the door leaving the building. The WORST place we had seen in a lifetime! We took off in our taxi which had waited for us. The haitian cabdriver told us it was NOT A SAFE NEIGHBOURHOOD. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. BETTER STAY AT YMCA. Now they changed their name from 1291 Sleep to Bed & Breakfast 1291 to get rid of the reviews under the first name. A FRAUD in other words! BEWARE!!!!!

Of all hostels and low budget places I have stayed, even in less developed countries, my stay at 1291 has to be the worst. My bed was infested with bed bugs leaving me with severe skin infections and terrible itching! The floors and tiles of my room and the corridor was filthy. Our air-conditioning broke down after just one night and they never got round to repairing it. The staff are usually polite but can certainly do better by being more helpful and taking initiative. I believe their lack of experience has to do with them being mostly student interns on holiday themselves and hence were clueless when confronted with situations like repair work and bed bugs. Forget about asking those on night shift to assist you - they seem rather reluctant and give one the impression that they are being harassed when approached. Honestly, after a long stay there, the ONLY good thing about this b & b is it's location and nothing more. This place had so much potential judging by their website. Considering how much the medical bill cost for all that bed bug bites, I'd rather stay at a more expensive but cleaner location using all that extra money I had to spend!

This is the deffinition of a bogus place!! seeing other rewiews I'm not sure if they are talking about the same place we try to stay; the horrible place is located in 1596 Lexington Avenue, New York City. There is nobody there to open the door, no front desk, the phone numbers they gave us...no answers (day or nignt) and worst, even the taxi driver told us he thinks this is not a good neighbour. We saw backpackers out the door with all their things and confirmation emails in their hands waiting for hours to get in. The building is a cage, iron bars in the windows... My husband and I (and the Taxi Driver) decided to run away, even if we had to loose the money, and we booked a "studio" for a week...
