AAE Chicago Parthenon Hostel

Good hostel, not much atmosphere, but clean and not expensive. Location is ideal, just outside the city center and enough places to eat around. If you just need a place to stay for the night, I can recommend it. I had no problems.

Friendly staff, very good location, safe and clean. Proposes a lot of useful services.

I stayed at a private room. The room, common room, bathroom were clearn and maintained well. The staff was nice and helpful too.

I would have enjoyed it better if the wireless was working. The continental breakfast excellent.

I'm so disappointed. There were hair all over the place and the breakfast was awful and there were insects crawling around in the breakfast room. At least we got our money back when we changed hotels...

Everything was great but really crappy Wi-Fi.

The Parthenon is a student crash-pad and, whilst the students know how to behave, the management does not except for the lady who allowed me to use her personal e-mail facility and provided me with a fan, both of these in the absense of internet facility and air-con, as advertised. Avoid if possible.

My room was well-kept and clean; very simple, but sufficient and comfortable, with a single bed, chest of drawers, small table with chair, overhead light plus lamp, no air-conditioning, but a rotating floor fan, a doorknob lock and a deadbolt, and bed clothes and a bath towel provided. The toilet room was small but sufficient, with soap dispenser and paper towels, but the shower room was a bit cramped, with only two stalls, although i had been told a tub was available. I had to drop off my bag (in an unsecured room) before the Chicago marathon, and the staff there in the restaurant before it was even open was supportive. When i came back after the marathon, the staff there then seemed inconvenienced by my checking in, and the (i'm guessing) hostel manager was gruff and unwelcoming, though efficient in getting me in. The location is a bit out from downtown, but convenient to Union Station and within a few blocks of an el station (Blue Line). I only stayed one night but felt reasonably safe in the neighborhood, even with a few of Chicago's street people on the routes to the hostel. The AAE Chicago Parthenon is certainly comperable to other good hostels i've stayed at and i'd stay there again.

This s very good hostel. Room rates are good taking into consideration the quality of the hostel, compared to other hostels USA-wide it is quite worth the cost.It is a beautiful and modern building with clean corridors, toilets and common room. It is quite close to a hotel so you may find it a good choice if you do not have high expectations.Staff is ok and efficient.Rooms are beautiful, new and make a good welcome to the traveler.Room cleanliness may be improved as there is no daily (room) cleaning service, which aspect may be improved, but by the way you do not really need it in a hostel.There is a computer with internet connection at no charge and a widescreen TV in the common room.Hostel location is great, 10min-walk away from center, right in front of Jackson boulevard.A metro station is close (halsted) as well.Since you are in the greek district you want to check out a couple of small restaurants and fast foods around there.

Great location. Great food near by. The owner (at least he seems to be the owner) is not very friendly but the other staff are very nice and accommodating.
