All Review Photos Coming into Vancouver after a long drive from Kennewick, Washington, I was glad when I saw the Barclay Hotel sign. Now, the next thing to do was to find the parking lot or garage, and that wasn't easy. It was rainy, and I drove...

Staff was friendly and helpful but the condition of the rooms was awful. We stayed in 2 different rooms and both smelled of bird droppings from the old type AC machines that acted as convenient bird stands. There are no elevators in the building and the facilities needed repairs. The location is great.

My friend and I decided to take a vacation to the city of Vancouver, and noticed the nice location of The Barclay Hotel. We parked our rental SUV in the modernized garage behind the building. Walking in the front door, we were greeted with a modern sliding door and wood entryway. Certainly, awesome atmosphere! The staff was sincerely courteous, and took our major credit cards that even some stores would not in Canada! The rooms are nice, and equipped with all the modern commodities -- alarm clock, bathroom, tv, dresser, desk, and chairs -- exactly what is expected in a hotel here in the US [for us tourists :)]! What's even better is the $5 Continental Breakfast! And, for visitors from all countries, Robson Street [where the hotel is] has food from all over the world. The block the Hotel is on features AT LEAST 15 restaurants of all types! Asahi-Ya Sushi is CERTAINLY the best sushi place in town, and it is just a block down, past the Pocky Shoppe [and still on Robson], with $1/pc. sushi!

All Review Photos The Barclay Hotel is a small hotel located on the ever-popular Robson Street. It is at the Denman end, not far from the water. In its previous life, it was a boarding house and the rooms still show a shadow of this past...

We enjoyed our stay at the Barclay Hotel. We had a room for 4 people which was clean and comfortable. The hotel is very well located in down town Vancouver with easy access to all tourist activities.

I'll start with what I liked - the location. Now I'll list what I didn't like. 1. no lift and with heavy baggage that is a big turn off. 2. Air conditioner that sounded like a freight train - reported it and nothing happened. 3. Light fitting hanging by a thread from the ceiling. 4 cigarettes and matches in with the shampoo and conditioner - we'd requested a non smoking room. 5. Staff could not speak English well - communication difficult. 6. Electrical wiring very suspect in room. 7. Bad television reception. 8. Bathroom door would not close properly. 9. Very rude staff member when we were checking out. Never ever go to this place unless all other places have been booked out.

Old fashioned but functional rooms. The problem is they are very reluctant to store luggage for a few days even when you have made a returns booking. They have a 'policy' not to store it!

Just spent two seperate nights at this hotel before and after my Alaskan Cruise, and although it was OK for an odd night I wouldn't like to stay longer.

Basic rooms but clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful and looked after our bags until we left for cruise or airport. Would stay there again.

The location was great if you want to be downtown Vancouver; it's close to many shops, restaurants, and cultural interest points (like the Vancouver Museum of Art). Staff was also friendly. The price was also quite good. However, the room was absolutely tiny, the carpets stained, the "sparkling clean" glasses had crusty toothpaste (or something) in them, the window was so dirty I could barely see out, and the A/C, which I struggled to get working properly, was coated with a thick layer of dust and dirt. I would not go back, nor would I recommend the hotel to anyone. I think you'd be better off getting a hotel near the same rate (but much nicer) near the Airport, and paying the $2.25 bus fare to get to the downtown area.
