Very typical London Victorian-style hotel. Everything as expected for the price. Building is very creaky (hallway, floor). Breakfast very average. Price/quality right for London.

+All staff were very courteous and very helpful. Despite the decor/condition of the hotel being less than we expected, we enjoyed our stay, and the breakfast that was included in the price was great. Exellent central location. Close to tube stations, resturants and shops. -The outside of the building is beautiful, but the inside of the hotel looks a bit like a youth hostel! Could do with a spruce up. The front desk for example is worn out and scratched, the breakfast room furniture too. Old carpets in the hallways. And why all the magnolia paintwork? Maybe I am biased because I live in Japan and am used to Japanese business hotels, but I found flat screen TV's and 1980's carpeting a bit of a mish-mash. However once I got used to the mixture of the old and new, I was very satisfied with my stay. (Although I had to leave a note for room service to close the window after cleaning - my room was only on the second floor, and with a ladder placed right outside the window, it was an open invitation for anyone to climb in while I was out!)

I recently stayed at Umi, an excellent value hotel in London's Notting Hill area, and had a wonderful stay there. I found the staff to be extremely helpful and welcoming and the concierge was able to offer me useful information and answer all of my questions. I ate a delicious breakfast every morning in the delightful Yumi Coffee Shop where they offer a variety of different English breakfasts, among other things - including all day snacks and treats. And the bar/restaurant, 1356, serves superior quality meals while providing an exceptionally pleasant dining atmosphere. Umi can accommodate small and large groups of travellers for business or leisure with rooms that have up to four single beds. The overall vibe is cool and casual and the location is trendy and fun, attracting countless younger travellers and groups of students. I very highly recommend this hotel if you're in search of a conveniently located London hotel with spectacular service where you can have a pleasant stay for a reasonable price! This was potentially the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The photos posted on the internet are misleading. The toilet in our room did not flush, nor did the shower turn off. The staff we called on to help us with the faulty shower situation...

This hotel was of great value! Though it is situated further from Central London, it is less than a 10 minute walk from Hyde Park which is close to Oxford Street. The neighborhood is very quaint. The cafe serves an excellent breakfast in the morning. The staff are willing to help with anything all day which is really convenient too. This hotel was perfect for my budget and needs.

Room is ultra small - as expected in London - bathroom was ok. We had a small TV with limited channels and I had to rearrange some furniture to fit the suitcases (the room was THAT small). But we were looking for a cheap, comfortable place to sleep...
