I booked a room at Thistle Hyde Park three weeks in advance and called reception the day of my arrival to let them know of my arrival time, which would be in the evening. When I arrived, the man at the reception desk said there was a problem with my booking. He said I'm supposed to be at the Thistle Kensington Gardens. I said I booked the Thistle Hyde Park three weeks ago. He then said they had to move me due to a leak in the room. When I asked if there was any other room available, he said they were overbooked and had to move me. I asked if there was transportation for me, he said no and suggested I walk there.

My family and I recently stayed at the Thistle Hyde Park. The hotel was fine. We had to move rooms when the toilet above let loose and flooded our bath (while the Wife was on the toliet no less!) She had to ask for an upgraded room and a free dinner. They should have offerred this automatically when something so bad happenned. The room and public spaces were attractive. They need to keep up with maintenenace though. The room needed some touch up paint. For the price it was agood value. The bed mattress was not the best. Could feel the springs.

We liked the large bedrooms overlooking the Park; we had many problems with the keys- did not work; our TV- also, did not work; and the Refrigerator- it was off, but the bathrooms were luxourious, the staff was helpful, and the area was safe and situated across from the gardens.

We booked this room because the ad made it sound like a nice place. We were expecting air condition but when we got there the AC was not working. We moved rooms three times because things in the rooms were broken or unsatisfactory. Besides the AC, we experienced a safe that did not work, a shower without the knob to turn it on, a satellite TV with 4 stations, the wake up call did not even work. The room we stayed in had filthy wallpaper, the ceiling was peeling due to water damage. The complimentary breakfast was going to cost us 15 pounds. The staff was somewhat friendly, but always said they would work on improving the problems, but it took several days for the main problem to be fixed - Air Conditioner. I would not stay at the Thistle Hyde Park again. Spend a little more money so that you have amenties that actually work!

Enjoyed our stay We enjoyed our stay, although the lillies in reception and the dining room were overpowering. The morning muffins and rolls were by the flowers and I feel the smell may have contaminated the open food. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and smelled fresh. The staff were all helpful and cheerful. Some building work still going on in dining area, but it did not cause any disruption to us. Unfortunately, there was a lot of dust on wood surfaces in the dining room. It was approximately ten minutes walk to a tube station, but the weather was good and the walk pleasant. Overall, it was a good choice for our London weekend visit.

A reasonable place to stay This hotel is nice although we were a little disappointed. We had stayed in a different hotel on our previous visit that was in a different part of London and had enjoyed that hotel more. This hotel was a few blocks from a subway station which is fine when the weather is nice but challenging in the rain. Also, our bed was horribly uncomfortable. We could feel the springs. When I said something to the front desk they said,"Oh that bed must not have been replaced yet." They made it up to us by giving us a very spacious room with a nice bed, but I felt that they shouldn’t be using the room until the bed was replaced. It was that bad. The front desk staff was extemely nice and polite. I would stay there again if I was wanting to stay in that part of town. Traveler's tip on local attractions This hotel is walking distance to the Portobello Road Market, and is across the street from Hyde Park.
