I stayed at the Tower 9 of the 10 years I visited London on business, mostly because it was convenient to Lloyd's. The location & views are great, but service was lacking. Didn't eat there much; when I did the Carvery was great. I breakfasted around the cornmer at the Riverview, a small place with prices about a third of the Tower, and NO lines or hoards of tourists all trying to eat their free breakfast at once!

I am a business traveler who has stayed at a number of hotels around the world, so my expectations may be a little high. However, if you are like me and would like to have a room available per your reservation confirmation number and not be asked to go to another hotel instead, this hotel is not for you.

Myself and a friend, who by the way is very fussy, stayed at The Tower in April for 2 nights, we were on a theatre break. Our room was on the second floor with a fantastic view of Tower Bridge, the room was clean and fresh, with even a free safe for your valuables.

I've stayed at this hotel three times. Like all Thistle Hotels in London, the rooms are more spacious and well-appointed IF you get one on the CONCIERGE level floors. This hotel is next to the Tower Bridge overlooking the Thames and next door to St Katharine's dock where some of the best restaurants in London are. I've eaten in the restaurants in this hotel as well; there is one that has a huge buffet which is a good value if you're a carnivore.

We obtained a 50% discount through the Entertainment book so I can't complain at all about value. The location is tops, the room was acceptable and I had no complaint about general service. The one area I still shake my head at is the Carvery -- their signature restaurant with dress code. The buffet vegetables had been cooked -- and cooked -- and cooked some more. Broccoli was yellow and the rest of the fare appeared to have suffered a similar experience. Receiving a cut of beef was a notable experience. A young woman from Pakistan was hacking at piece of beef I MIGHT buy to make green chili or tacos. Her tool was a carbon steel knife that looked as if it had been used to open jam tins in WWI. The beef tasted as if it had been in a tin at some point. The restaurant was a complete disappointment.

Everythoing was an extra cost that was not well explained. Example: Internet sevice // advertise at 10, but billed at 15

The rate excluding VAT was misleading. I booked an executive room but mistook the abbreviation exc in exc vat room for executive and ended up paying over £50 more than I expected. Please list prices that are vat inclusive.
