The Savoy, A Fairmont Hotel

The Strand - WC2R OEU London

Located on the Strand and overlooking the River Thames, the Savoy, a Fairmont Hotel is one of London's most famous landmarks, set 300 meters from Trafalgar Square. The hotel is packed with original Art Deco features and has 263 individually decorated guestrooms. All are decorated in traditional English style, with chintzy fabrics and colorful walls. Amenities include Irish linen sheets, CD players, bathrobes and slippers, service call buttons, and bathtubs with Floris toiletries. Rooms face the street or the inner courtyard, have separate sitting areas and Internet connections. In the Michelin starred Savoy Grill, guests can sample traditional dishes with a modern twist created by Gordon Ramsay's protégé Marcus Wareing. The Savoy Grill was originally run by Cesar Ritz, and a refurbishment by American designer Barbara Barry has retained the dining room's original look, with russet brown décor and mirrored walls; the ceiling is lined with silver and platinum wallpaper. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a relaxed dining experience at Banquette, Marcus Wareing's take on an American diner. Evocative of the interior of a 1950s Corvette Stingray, the menu can include Beef Fillet Burger with Pear Chutney, Traditional Sheperd's Pie and King Crab Risotto. The American Bar, where the Dry Martini is said to have been created, serves cocktails to the strains of jazz piano music, as does the Laurent Perrier Bar, a vintage champagne bar. Guests can also take light lunch, afternoon tea or dinner in the elegant Thames Foyer where Noel Coward performed, Caruso sang and Pavlova danced in Cabaret. The Fitness Gallery is home to one of only two rooftop swimming pools in London. London Heathrow Airport is 45 minutes and 19 miles away.

Savoy was THE hotel to stay at for many years. It still has a great location and (so I hear) a great grill. Service is very good.

The Savoy has a lot of history but it doesn't live up to the prices. The amenities are limited and outdated. No question it is a grand hotel with a great location but you can do a lot better for the price.

What a disappointment! Fairmont usually stands for excellent quality, but not this one. The hotel & rooms are old & not comfortable. Staffs are snubbish. You would expect more for such a high price. Location is great though.

Perfect London location. All attractions were close by and Underground was 50 feet from front door. Walking distance to several attractions including Trafalgar square, Leicester and Buckingham Palace.

I spent quite a number of days in a suite over Easter there. I want to impart with you that the Savoy is one of the finest hotels in the world with a support staff that rivals perfection when it comes to superior customer service. The food is wonderful and the Spa emenities are heavenly. My stay at the Savoy was absolutely fabulous and it is the only place I will stay when I return home...

Elegant and beautiful hotel in the very heart of London. Next to Trafalgar square, walking distance from Buckingham palace, the Royal museum, London eye and more. Right by two undergrounds (Charing Cross, Embankment) so transfers seldom necessary. We weren't happy with the mattress in our first room, so they moved (upgraded) us to another room without hesitation. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends.
