Parkwood Hotel

4 Stanhope Place, Marble Arch - W2 2HB London

Surely occupying one of the best situations in London, The Parkwood is a gracious small hotel. Though only five minutes' walk from busy, noisy Marble Arch and Oxford Street,it is a world away in this quiet street which opens onto all the splendour of Hyde Park. The front door opens into an attractive hallway and thence the charming lounge with its pink sofas, plants and candy striped wallpaper. Many of the bedrooms have recently been re-decorated with pretty papers and prints and all have satellite television, radio-alarms and tea/coffee makers. Some rooms are non-smoking. Bathrooms are nice though a little old-fashioned, having tubs and hand-showers, not power showers. The Parkwood is under the same ownership as the Edward Lear as one notices by the same coral walls in the breakfast room, the hand-written menus exhorting one to 'Eat, relax and enjoy' and even the artists' gallery of paintings by visiting children. Once again a very, and deservedly, popular small hotel, so we urge prospective visitors to book early, if possible.' Budget prices that are surprisingly low for such a good location. Prices that include a full English breakfast, tax and service. All rooms are very comfortable with TV, free satellite, radio, tea/coffee, direct-dial phone, etc. Walking distance to theatres, central shops and tourist sites. Buckingham Palace just a short stroll across the park.

+ Amazingly fast and pleasant breakfast service. Good food, well cooked too. - Banging doors was a real problem. Proper door closers that prevented doos banging closed would have helped enormously.

For the short duration of our stay this hotel was most acceptable. The situation is wonderful, within walking distance of some attractions and with bus and underground stops nearby. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, both in reception and at breakfast. The hotel is clean and well maintained. It is on a'relatively'quiet road, you are in the heart of London afterall!!There is no lift available,so the stairs could be a problem for some.

The location is excellent for getting all around the city. It however lacked a lot of the friendliness and atmosphere that we are accustomed to with a B&B.

Good value for money, perfect location for concerts in Hyde Park especially if you are on your own.

I was there last year and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It is in a great location, just at the Hyde Park end of Oxford St., and I was surprised at how reasonable the cost seemed compared to quotes from other hotels in the centre (although expensive compared to similar places in Australia but I suppose that's London for you). The staff are really friendly and helpful and the rooms are reasonably comfortable. The free internet access was a bonus.

Rooms were very small, no elevator, lots of stairs, heat was provided by an portable heater. It is located near the tube and bus lines which is convenient. It was nice to be close to Hyde Park and away from central London noise and crowdedness but for the price one would expect more. The rooms should have been around 40lbs, not 80+

+ The location is superb, right by Oxford Street. - The room was pretty small but I've seen smaller. The breakfast is only served until 9 o'clock and I actually never managed to be ready in time ;-) Also you have to be out of your room at 10.30 on the day

the double room was a little shabby and cramped. e.g., bath door off bottom runner. bed smaller than led to believe. would have stepped up to higher level room had we known

The reception and breakfast staff were wonderful and very helpful. Just the creaking floorboards managed to wake us occasionally.
