Garth
69 Gower Street, Bloomsbury - WC1E 6HJ London
The Garth Hotel is located in the center of London, surrounded by the delightful squares and leafy parks which typify Bloomsbury. This area was, and still is, home to London's intellectual classes, and this central Bloomsbury hotel is only a short stroll from London University's most prestigious institutions, such as the Warburg Institute, Senate House and Birbeck College, as well as the British Museum. Like many of the academics which frequent this area of the city, this historical 18th-century Georgian town house has its own eccentric and original character. Guests on a weekend break or visiting the University will enjoy the numerous paintings, photographs and prints in the hotel, which create a unique atmosphere and give away the owner's previous job as a collector of antiques. The reception is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and there is abundant tourist information available in the lobby.

Perhaps I am not used to London prices, but the Garth seemed a little bit like a high-priced boarding house. Some staff members seemed to have a kind of boarding house mentality, a little like they didn't want to be disturbed with requests from their guests.

A small but cozy room; nice hospitality; good breakfast. Our room faced a street that remained busy thoughout the night, so was quite noisy.

Our room was so small and noisy that we checked out an hour after checking in. We would rather pay the first night as a penalty than stay there the four nights.

Possibly the seediest B&B I've ever stayed in. Lock on room door was temperamental, bed was uncomfy, it was noisy all night and I could hear every word (and the rest) that was said in the next room. Room was tiny and no tea/coffee making facilities as promised.
