Don't let the pictures fool you. This quaint little hotel/inn lacks in what I call a well-run business. The customer service at the desk was not so customer friendly. When we asked about a few local attractions or directions, we were handed a map. Our room was so-so; we had to call for maintenance to replace a light bulb in one of the lamps, there was little hot water most mornings, and we had to ask for toilet paper more than once. The cook in the kitchen seemed to be waiting tables as well as keeping the eggs and peas hot. We could hardly wait to move on to a hotel that truly offered what they advertised.

Great Stay in London This hotel is just minutes from the subway making all the attractions in London very accessible. There are several very good restaurants with in walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel staff very friendly. All very clean. Breakfast included was sufficient. The only problem I had was the small lift. Too small, very slow, old shaky, would preferred to stay on the ground floor so I could take the stairs. On the whole myself and friends enjoyed our stay, we'll be hoping to book the same time next year.

Great location and staff was friendly Overall I would recommend the Gainsborough. I would recommend booking a deluxe room, as the standard is very tiny, just enough room to walk around the bed. The staff was helpful and polite. The location is great- block and a half from the tube station and there are a huge variety of restaurants within walking distance.

I stayed at this hotel last week. The room carpet was very dirty. I was disgusted to even step on it with bare feet and the bed covers they had were the dirtiest covers I have ever seen in my life. When I complained about it they said every room had dirty bed covers the staff didnt care at all.

Terrible value The hotel describes itself as a 3.5 star but this is more like a 2-star. The rooms were very tiny, the decor very dilapidated and the general condition of the room, bed covers, curtains and carpets was very dirty. I had come from staying at 3 different 3-star hotels in London and this was definitely way off the scale. The staff were friendly but not very accommodating and kept insisting that the hotel was great value.

Not a contender in its category for Value for money. A bit too much of a lightweight in a heavyweight hotel class. Expected more of a complete hotel rather than a up market B&B. Positioning was great for location, right next to the National History Museum. But the narrow Sq foot footprint of the Hotel is more like that of a big town house in the west End rather than a quality hotel.

Clean, friendly and close to food and subway We found National Express Dot2dot shuttle service a very quick and efficient way to travel to/from the airport. They escort you to the Gatwick Express and from there to another shuttle bus. You can't get lost! Reserve before you travel and they are waiting for you.

Disappointed! The room was possibly the smallest room I have ever had. I could not even stand in front of the bathroom mirror and had to lean over the toilet to see myself shaving! Room equipment was broken, a socket had burn marks around it, the bed creaked, the wardrobe was too short to hang a raincoat. However, the thing that did it for me were the rat and cockroach traps placed beneath the damp patch on the wall hidden behind the bedhead (I had to pull the bed out to close the curtains). I am done with trying to save money on London hotels and will just have to accept that it is a very expensive place to stay.
