Impressed with location, not impressed with staff! Don't take a lot of luggage as there are no lifts. The room for four is very spacious and nice and the breakfast is great as are the breakfast staff.

Bickenhall Hotel is a basically fair but not outstanding hotel to stay in. Firstly, the carpets and reception furniture are in need of repair, and arriving with luggage and being placed on the top floor without any hotel elevator was quite a struggle. The staff is friendly and helpful though, and the English Breakfast is a real treat. However at the price given, one could stay at a 3-star hotel with airconditioning (Bickenhall doesnt have any...). The only reason we decided to risk this was its proximity to Baker and Oxford Streets.

Poor value Although the staff was generally helpful and the included daily breakfast was quite good, the overall condition, cleanliness and comfort of the hotel were very disappointing. We were placed on the fourth floor of the hotel, which does not have an elevator, and no baggage assistance was available. The threadbare carpeting of the hallways, light by bare bulbs on walls with clearly visible cracks, covered squeaky wooden flooring, and our room was no better. The single chair in our room had a broken back, the beareau was missing a door handle and drawer handle, and the attachment for the toilet cover was broken on one side. Although the sheets, floor and bathroom were reasonably clean, the bedspreads were so dirty that we had to remove them and the mattresses were equally dirty. In summary, I cannot recommend this hotel to other travellers.

not clean....really too loud to sleep bathroom very dirty, smell of mold and mold covering the floor of the shower. Noise from the street so loud that it made sleeping impossible. Bus stop right in front of the hotel, so bus and car traffic was very loud. Floor boards in the room above need replacing and you can hear every step the person upstairs takes. would not go back

We were a bit nervous before our stay having read some negative reviews of Bickenhall. However, our experience was overall positive. The location is great, the price great (for London) and the rooms were clean and adequate. Breakfast was excellent. T

Dear Sir /Madam, It is with regret that I have to contact you with regard to our stay at The Bickenhall Hotel . Thankfully we only had to endure one nights stay here. Our experience is as follows: We arrived at the hotel at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday 16/10/07. We were immediately informed we could not have our room until 2.00 p.m. My wife specifically changed the check in time to 11:00a.m. on the Venere web site. We were told we could leave our luggage and come back. I declined due to the importance of the contents. So, we had two hours or so to kill in the rain with a 3 month old and a five year old. There is no mention of the presence of animals at the hotel. So, I was surprised to see the local tom cat on the couch in reception. Great if you suffer with allergies Well, we eventually get our room, number 12, first floor, no lift, or assistance with luggage and pushchair. By now, after being informed by reception that they have supplied a baby cot but its broken, I am really getting uptight. Into the room, trip up small step and hit the door within a door. Basically, you open one and immediately there is another one. My 5 year old asks for the tv to go on. Great picture! No reception. only sound and a vague picture. I went to reception to notify them and was greeted by a young lady who couldn't understand me, or couldn't be bothered to, that" tv 10 channel". What this meant, is beyond me. There was no cable or dish, only terrestrial channels. Which to my knowledge are 1-5. While I was there, I asked for a 7.00 a.m. wake up call. Should have known better, as it never transpired. The shower was nice and hot. Except it took 5 minutes to turn, sorry, push off ! Obviously faulty as it is a round dial which has to be pushed, not turned, at random until it decides to comply. The sink basin would not drain. Although, it was empty in the morning. So, I decide on the morning to speak with someone at reception. I explained the problems to the, AGAIN, hardly English s

Average guest house in an excellent location. Serves good english breakfast. Staff are friendly. No lift meant we had to climb 5 flights of steps every time. If you want clean towels take your own as they don't change them daily but urge you to dry them out and reuse.
