Cortijo La Reina

Cortijo La Reina

Ctra. Málaga-Colmenar Km 549,5 - 29013 Málaga

A sumptuous Andalusian country estate set in quiet mountain scenery twenty minutes from Malaga, the four star Hotel Cortijo la Reina is a luxury hotel in a beautiful natural setting surrounded by ancient trees. This traditional country estate, a former farm house known as a cortijo, sits 800 metres above sea level within the Montes de Malaga Natural Park and has views of the sea. It is also a hive of activity: taking a dip in the swimming pool or enjoying a leisurely game of tennis, handball, minigolf or bowls are some of the edifying pursuits on offer at the hotel. Kids can enjoy the play area. Less exhausting options include just relaxing in one of the fireplaced lounges or the games room, and having a three course dinner in the restaurant. The hotel's 36 bedrooms provide just the kind of comfort that you would expect from a luxury country home, such as fireplaces and storage heaters for the winter. All of the furniture is high quality, especially the beds, whose solid old fashioned style give a romantic touch. When you should decide to indulge in an aged cognac or glass of sherry you can avail of the honesty bar where you can serve yourself a measure as large as you like. The restaurant does an excellent three-course lunch with deboned bull's tail and wild boar stew being just a couple of the favourite dishes. Finally, the outdoor swimming pool has great views of the park; also trekking trails on the hotel property are another great option for spending your time. Hotel Cortijo La Reina forms a part of a 150,000 m² estate in the Montes de Malaga Natural Park which is just 30 minutes drive from Malaga airport. The estate has a number of trekking paths which wind among the splendid greenery consisting of olive trees, pines, almond trees, and oak as well as numerous fruit trees bearing kiwis, grapefruit, avocados and others. Bird species include woodpecker, goldfinch, eagles and seagulls. Near to the hotel are the typical towns of Colmenar, Archidona and Casabermeja. The hotel is also a great base for enjoying Malaga's golf courses.

Catering facilities were very restricted. No change in daily menu & what choices there were, were very limited and un-interesting. In 4 days we were there we did not see anyone using the main restaurant for evening meals. Surroundings and scenery very beautiful but there were no other usable facilities at the hotel. Hotel staff very polite and helpful. Hotel very noisy in early morning due to marble floors. No tea or coffee making facilities provided in the rooms, it all had to be done on a room service basis, which was not very efficient.

We stayed here two nights at the end of 16 days in Spain as it's less than an hour from the airport. It's a beautiful place. The buffet breakfast is the sort of feast that can set you up for the day and the restaurant is very good with prices reflecting it's four star status (although still very reasonable by Irish standards). I rate the cleanliness good rather than very good because the outside areas looked a bit neglected when we were there in late April. Maybe more grounds staff are drafted in for the summer.

The location is spectacular, the hotel grounds are huge with lovely gardens, a mini-golf course, swimming pool, lots of outdoor areas to sit. (Pity about the cloud though!) Due to the elevation of the hotel, the two days we spent there were in cloud. It wasn't until the final morning when we left that the cloud had cleared and we could finally see the beautiful surroundings. As the hotel is located outside of town, there aren't many choices of restaurants/cafes in the region. Eating at the hotel restaurant was quite expensive.

A very lovely hotel thats worth the visit. Fantastic views. There was skeleton staff when we stayed, probably because there was a wedding onsite! So when we ordered drinks after hours even for residence we was told not available, there was no room service and when I complained by writing to the management, no reply was sent to me. Would I stay here again, yes but take your own tipple if you want a late drink and even though the poor receptionist does her best to do everything, don`t expect to much, service wise!

Property is nice even though a bit more maintenance to the facilities would not damage. For lovers of out-of-town places.

We were here for the first time. The location and the hotel are wonderful. Perhaps we were there in the wrong season. It was too cold in the rooms and in the dining-room. The employees weren`t able to make the air-condition work correctly. There are no other restaurants nearby and we only saw two other guests in the hotel.

What a gem of a hotel! This was one of the nicest hotels that we have stayed at in Europe. Its rural location was gorgeous and the facilities were outstanding. Service was great and the food was delicious! We highly recommend it.
