Most hotels in Seville have as much character, flair and good looks as the city itself. There is a good choice for travellers on all budgets, from small elegant hostels located on winding streets in the centre of town, to 18th century cloistered palaces converted into luxury four-star hotels. The Barrio Santa Cruz is the most popular area for tourists to stay. This ancient district of winding streets, tiled benches, outdoor tapas bars and beautiful old gardens is a vibrant spot. Stay in one the many hotels here and open your door every morning onto Seville life as it has been lived for centuries. For those with a little money to spend, luxury Seville hotels are impressive. One of the best known is the Hotel Alfonso III. Built in 1929, it was designed to be the most luxurious hotel in Europe at the time. Those lucky enough to stay there today are impressed by its opulence. Budget travellers will find a good selection of hostels throughout the town, but for the very cheapest prices it is necessary to move further away from the city centre. During the most popular times of year – the summer season and the two big festivals of Semana Santa at Easter and Feria in April – the whole city is booked out and it's almost impossible to find rooms if you don't have reservations already.
