+ Staff very helpful. - the immediate neighborhood (construction works, noise)

They were jack hammering the street all day and the bar across the street was loud all night

Cleaning staff were excellent.

+ traditional decor - we have stayed at the hotel 9 years ago - but had a better room then - About half of the hotel front desk staff were not very friendly or helpful.

I was looking for an affordable accommodation in this city for a non-carnival February weekend and it was very difficult. Thus, this hotel priced at around ?110/night for a double with breakfast and taxes included seemed about right. The location is great for walking all around town, is very central and only a 5-10 minute walk from major sites (barrio gotico, mercat de la boqueria, las ramblas, passeig de gracia, contemporary art museums, etc), metro stops (plaza catalunya, universidad) and the airport bus.

Location is excellent,2 minutes from Ramblas. Breakfast OK but not very inspiring. Tea/Coffee in room would be most welcome Reasonable value for money.

Not such a great location. And please all these travel guides that talk about oozing with charm....don't know what they saw in this hotel. Did not get a sense that this is a family run hotel. If anything - it was more a case that they could not do anything until their manager arrived. Let me explain. Special weekend with dear friends. Booked in great detail as I was recommended to book rooms on 5th floor - street side. More expensive - but apparently well worth it. After emailing them these details and them confirming - twice!!! we find ourselves on the 3rd floor overlooking the back end of a building a rubble tip. After explaining that they have not fulfilled their commitment - there is a shrug of shoulders and I am told that I can go somewhere else if I choose. So I did. To end. Beware - smokers everywhere, walls paperthin, terrible cheap looking decor, bathrooms tiny and musty smelling and very very bland.

We were there at the "Mercé" festival which we did not know in advance. Therefore the price was higher than usual. Normally I would think the the relationship between price/quality is OK. Had ordered a double room, but got a twin room ..
