Hostal Grau is a clean, friendly, family-run hostel located in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, just 50 metres off Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya. Stroll up Las Ramblas and observe the many street artists and flower and bird stands so typical of this pedestrian walkway. Enter the Boqueria Market and enjoy the colours and life and exotic offering at this unique market. Sample some of the offerings at the bars in the market which are supplied with the freshest of fish, meat and vegetables. Head to the Plaza dels Angels where Richard Meier’s MACBA (contemporary art museum) building dominates this area.Skate boarders make for entertaining people watching outside, and inside, the collection of modern art is well worth the visit. For interesting rotating exhibits, see the CCCB (contemporary culture centre) just behind the MACBA. Also close to the hostel are historical landmarks such as the Cathedral and parts of the Roman wall which originally surrounded the city. Shop in the many boutiques in this city: Barcelona has more shops per capita than any city in Europe. You won’t doubt it after walking around this city.The hostel is basic and standard. Very well maintained, the spotlessly clean rooms are decorated with colourful stained glass windows. Have breakfast at the lively café downstairs.
