Gaudi Hotel Barcelona
Nou De La Rambla 12 - 08001 Barcelona
Set in the heart of Barcelona, a stone's throw from the Ramblas and the Old Town and close to the cathedral and the Plaa Catalunya, the Hotel Gaud offers visitors a comfortable stay in Barcelona. The Hotel Gaud is a three-star hotel built on the basis of a historical building in 1964 and fully restored between 1986 and 1992 for the Barcelona Olympic Games. Now it is once again being renovated, with the focus this time being on reflecting modernista furniture and emphasising the original architecture of the building in which the hotel is sited. We currently offer 33 renovated bedrooms and will continue to add more a rate of 15 per year until the renovations are completed. This hotel is set opposite the Palau Gell, designed by Antoni Gaud, from whom we take our name, a stones throw from Barcelonas famous Ramblas, with its newspaper and magazine kiosks, its birds and fish and its flower and plant stands. Also on the same street are the Liceu opera house, the Palau de la Virreina with its exhibitions, the Palau Moja, the Wax Museum and the Santa Mnica Art Centre, and more...Also close to the hotel is the Barri Gtic, the Old Town, home to the cathedral, the Palau de la Generalitat, the City Hall, the Archive of the Crown of Aragn, the Picasso Museum and a range of antique, curio and furniture stores. Close by, too, are the Maremagnum complex, the IMAX cinema, the Aquarium, the Rambla de Mar, the Columbus Monument, the Drassanes Royal Shipyards, now a maritime museum, and Barcelonas Port Vell (Old Harbour), with the Palau de Mar, the Moll de la Fusta promenade, and all manner of restaurants.Further along the coast is the Port Olmpic (the Olympic Harbour), with the Villa Olmpica (Olympic Village), which has become one of the main centres of the citys nightlife. And, on the other side of the hotel, Montjuic hill, home of the sporting facilities that hosted the 1992 Olympic Games.

- The wifi was confined to the 1st floor public rooms and i couldn't get through on it. also, the room they gave me on the first night was not worth the money, so i asked for (and got) a better one. in relation to the price charged €374 for three nights (with €10.70 extra for a rather poor buffet breakfast), the website suggested that this was a bargain rate, but in fact the normal rates are generally lower (i was told). so i felt cheated.

+ The location was excellent for exploring barcelona and the staff were very helpful. - The rooms definitely need updating and were expensive for what they were, especially with the weak pound at the moment.

+ A good central location in the heart of the rambla, hotel staff helpful and friendly and good clean rooms. - The main entrance doors to the hotel are glass doors controlled by a movement detector from the outside which opens them to allow you access, this did not always work and you either had to ring the bell or the hall porter inside has to wave his hand under the movement detector to activate the doors so that you could enter. this became very irritating , i like to walk through a door when entering a hotel and gain access on my first attempt!
