Del Mar Hotel Barcelona

Excellent location. Much to see/do within easy walking distance. Have stayed twice. Next to Gothic quarter with many fascinating streets and unlimited restaurants. The hotel has wonderful "old world" feel but rooms are surprisingly large and modernistic with central A/C. Complimentary breakfast was more than expected and dining area was attractive and clean. Rooms with a balcony are recommended. Second time we stayed, we were assigned an "interior room" -- while a nice room, there was absolutely no privacy since it looked directly into other rooms no more than 15 feet away.

Good location Great location and very reasonable price. Very clean but also small if coming from USA. Only a short walk to subway station which will get you everywhere in Barcelona.

The en-suite room was clean enough although a bit basic. Having said that we didn't spend much time there so it wasn't really a problem. The only thing that let the hotel down in my opinion was the noise of the surrounding area. The hotel is situated near the marina area which is very pleasant but is also near a busy road which made it very difficult for us to get much sleep. For this reason alone we would probably choose to stay in a different hotel if we are lucky enough to visit Barcelona in the future. If you are not too bothered about the noise though and you are on a tight budget then this is the hotel for you.

Definately satisfied A few recommendations - first for the El Rey de la Gamba restaurant by the harbour, amazing seafood and great prices. Secondly do the bike tour, booked through Expedia, was fantastic value and such a good way to see Barcelona. Another great restaurant just off the Placa Reil called the Creme Catalona, do a 3 course lunch for less than 10 euros inc a drink.

We only stayed 1 night and wouldn't have done if we had arrived sooner. There was a tramp sleeping in the door way, the staff could not speak english and did not seem to know who we were although we had a booking. When we got to our room it had no lock on the door, the bedding was filthy dirty, in fact the whole room was dirty. We left the hotel at 6 the next morning because we had not been able to sleep. We went to find the tourist informaion centre to help us find a new hotel; the one they sent us to was not only clean and frendly and in a good postion, it was also cheaper and had a lower star rating!As this city break was a surprise for my girfrends 21st it was a very big disappointment and very upsetting for both of us. We won't be using you again.

Great Location I stayed there recently for 3 nights at the beginning of March. The hotel is in a great location, is very clean, though spartan. Did not notice any problems with odor as mentioned in the earlier review, so it must have been fixed. As for the cost of the breakfast, that seems to be typical of most European hotels I’ve stayed at.

springs in beds were broken, making them creaky and uneven. constant smell of cigerette smoke in the room. no wall socket to plug in appliances (eg mobile phone charger)
