Catalonia Princesa Hotel Barcelona
Rec Comtal 16-18 - 08003 Barcelona
The 3 star Catalonia Princesa has a fabulous location for exploring some of the highlights of Barcelona, Spain. In the part-fashionable, part-artsy Born/Ribera area are loads of unique shops, pricey boutiques, beautiful winding streets and leafy plazas to be explored- this charming area keeps getting better. The world famous Picasso Museum is right at hand, as is the tempting Chocolate Museum, not a bad place to start off your day with a hot coffee and chocolate croissant. The hotel is just around the corner from the imposing Arc de Triumph, and walking distance to central Plaza Catalunya and the lively Las Ramblas, though you can also take the nearby metro 2 short stops. For a meal, there are countless options dotting the area- anywhere from informal Spanish tapas at the Taven del Born to higher end restaurants serving up fusion cuisine such as Re-Pla on Calle Montcada. And that's only scratching the surface. The 90 rooms at the Catalonia Princesa are pleasant, with wooden parquet flooring, and a coherent, crisp style with a contemporary feel. Most are exterior, some with balcony, and all area large and comfy. They include a minibar, en suite bathroom with hair dryer, cable - satellite TV, air conditioning, in-room safe and radio. Room service is available to the hungry or thirsty guest. At the Catalonia Princesa, guests have access to a bar/cafeteria, restaurant serving up traditional Mediterranean fare and a conference room. Wifi internet connection is available throughout the building. There is also a buffet breakfast, coffee bar, laundry and dry-cleaning services, fax, Internet services, car rental, currency exchange.

We spent 3 nights in this charming hotel. The rooms were spotless and comfortable and the service excellent. Breakfast was of the highest quality and food choices plentiful and varied.

A fantastic time to be had by all if you're prepared to put in the time and effort If you like to see as much as you can on a city break I highly recommend one of the first things you is do a bus trip on one of the Hop On Hop Off tours. Not only do you get to see the whole of the city from an open top bus and get some idea of where you might like to visit later. If you get the chance and have any time or money left I recommend a day trip to Montserrat - buy a Tot Montserrat ticket for a great value day out.

+ Location of the hotel = good - At the checkout their credit card machine was supposedly broken and I had to pay cash. Lucky for me I had still some cash left. The alternative, which was unacceptable due to shortness of time, was to rush to a nearby ATM

We loved the Catalonia Princesa! The room and bathroom were large (by European standards). The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great! We had an issue with the water in the bathroom that the helpful hotel staff took care of immediately. The location was perfect. Walking distance to the beach and La Rambla but on a quiet street. We felt safe walking to and from the hotel at night. Try the restaurant next door...Restaurant de Hugo, it is delicious! One word of caution, a Scottish women also staying in the hotel had her purse snatched by a man on a moped as she exited the hotel. Be careful!

Very Good Value My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Catalonia Princessa for two nights in February 2008. The hotel was modern and clean. The room was large with a queen size double bed, a large clean marble bathroom with double shower and a bath. The breakfast was good value and had a varied selection. The area was interesting and had a lot of character - very near the Arc de Triomphe and the bus station (a 2 minute walk which we discovered to our cost the first morning after arriving in the dark the night before and hailing a taxi as we did not know the area!!). Be warned - he obviously saw us coming and went the 'scenic route'. I would review the hotel as Very Good.
