Great hotel in Porto The hotel was clean and modern with very helpful staff. It’s a bit far from the center of downtown Porto, but not an expensive cab ride or an enjoyable walk. There is not a gym or pool, but the hills of Porto will suffice for the active types. The hotel restaurant was very nice with great food.

Very nice hotel, the room was big, the bed huge. The parking access can be a bit confusing however. A special mention to the breakfast buffet which was very good.

Extremely good service in reception and restaurant. The facilities could need a swimming pool in connection to the Spa center which I used. It was very surprising how few other guest there were staying in the four days we stayed in the hotel.

Lovely hotel, huge posh lobby.. I felt very scruffy in my combats and t-shirt! Extremely clean, efficient staff, enormous bedroom. The double bed was two normal doubles pushed together. Bathroom all marble and tile and great, powerful shower. New toiletries every day and chocolate on the bed. Good safe which is free. Breakfast was amazing. Everything you can think of - fresh fruit, hams, bacon and eggs etc, crepes, cakes, pastries (they love thier pastries in Portugal), juices, various teas, I think they even had port. I'm not a big fan of croisants but these were incredible. There is a leisure centre but you have to pay to use the pool which is a shame. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent. More expensive than elsewhere in Portugal but worth it as the food is generally not brilliant there. We got a metro from the airport, changing at Trindade and then its a 10/15 minute walk to the hotel. I can't remember the stop, its the one after General Torres. I think there is a map on the sol melia website which is quite useful. Remember for the metro you need to buy an andante card and put journeys on before you travel. Count the number of zones you travel in during your journey and put that on the card. Once you have got from the airport you can put 10 trips on and get one free. We got Z2 as that's all you need to get from the hotel to the centre of porto. Metros are very frequent. It is a lovely hotel. The location isn't perfect, especially if you are only travelling for a few days and don't want to waste time - there is nothing much around the hotel - you will need to go to Porto itself. But I can't fault the hotel itself.

Excellent hotel, pleasant staff and reasonably priced. A bit out of the way, but taxis are relatively cheap.

The Melia Porto Gaia Hotel is great value for money! The rooms are big, with an equally spacious bathroom to boot. Service is prompt and the staff are very helpful. I especially enjoyed the wide breakfast buffet spread and it's probably one of the most sumptuous breakfast I have seen anywhere. The dinner restaurant also had good and attentive service, although the food was a little pricey. The only downside is that the hotel does not have a metro nearby, the nearest one is about 10-15 mins walk away at the El Cortes Ingles. For those wanting to go to Porto, the metro would only about 10 mins to get to the Porto city centre. For those who plan to drive to the hotel, it may also be a little complicated as you need to drive through a lot of one way streets in a rather round about manner before you can get to the hotel. All in all, I would still recommend this hotel to anyone who is intending to visit Porto. You won't regret it!

Hotel facilities are up to expectation. Car parking is free and plentiful. The reception on the check-in date was not as nice as the rest.
