Thorbecke Hotel Amsterdam

+ Location was fab couldn't have been better

+ None - We booked a ouble ensuite room for 3 nights. the pictures we saw on the website looked o.k. and because of the location we booked it. we booked the room 6 weeks earlier and would have expected a decent room. we ascended a rather unkempt staircase into a rather indifferent reception area and after checking in were shown to room 14. it was not very nice. although it was clean, it was not what we expected. it was small and had the feeling of a prison cell. it was dark and dingy. my wife couldn't bare being in it and we moved out immediately. we asked if there were any other rooms available. there weren't. so we left the hotel. although we only stayed there for 10 minutes we did pay for one night. luckily the hotel atalanta across the road had a room available so we stayed there for the three nights. much much better and in fact the room cost less than the thorbecke!! 90euro as opposed to 100. maybe the other rooms in the thorbecke were better but certainly not room 14. i certainly will not be visiting the thorbecke again !!

+ The hotel was in a great location, was clean and facilities were fair for what we paided . - Be ready for the steep stairs !

+ Located very close to the night life in amsterdam - However, maybe a little too close, as there was a bar downstairs pumping loud music until 4am. but if you will still be out until 4am, this is the place for you!

+ Apartment was perfect. we had top floor and althogh the stairs tired us out it was well worth it when we got there. plenty of room and a lovely roof terrace.would definately go back. - Every one on the tv was green? in hotel building carpet was filthy,not a good 1st impression.

+ Great location for nightlife - Carpet throughout hotel filthy and smelly

+ Upon arrival I was impressed with the level of security at the hotel (no unwelcomed visitors would be able to gain access to the hotel). - Recepitionist charged me an extra 75€ for an extra person staying, even though my mate was staying at a different

+ The staff were very friendly.

+ Our room was a few floors up, and faced the back, so no noise issues that other rooms had. central location. - One of the beds was missing a leg, no parking available (but can pay 30 euro for a kind of valet/storage)

+ Nice located hotel in the heart of amsterdam. nice simple rooms. nice staff. - A little noisey because of the central location.
