+ Nice room layout - fresh and bright. - There were no curtains ( a basic facility you would expect a hotel to have so it was very bright early in the morning) and it was very noisy - on a busy road. it was also quite far out of town. beds were very soft.

A solid European-style hotel - with both the pros and cons If you are only accustomed to American-style hotels, then you will probably find the Hotel V a bit of a shock. Here are the things you won’t be used to: (1) No elevators. (2) Extremely steep, narrow stairways. (3) Small, dorm-style rooms with one twin bed (if you’re in a single room). (4) The need to electrically lower a metal roller cover over your windows for complete nighttime privacy (the thin curtains alone won’t do it). (5) The need to buzz the reception at the front door in order to get into the building, no matter the time of day. (5) Very little acoustic isolation between floors and between rooms. You WILL know when your neighbors are coming and going, and probably even what they’re doing when they’re in their room. The reverse is of course also true. If you’re on your honeymoon, or if you are easily awoken by the clatter of other guests returning late at night (a common pattern in Amsterdam), then you’ll probably prefer a place with more privacy -- if you can find one. The important thing to keep in mind is that the above issues are the norm for older hotels in European cities. Because I’ve stayed in many, I knew what to expect, and I was actually pleasantly surprised: friendly, helpful staff; clean, renovated rooms; decent (if basic) breakfast buffet. Rooms have free WiFi, so if you bring a laptop, you can look up tourist attractions etc. from your room. There is also a public computer in the lobby which is usually not being used.

+ Very funky, clean and modern with very helpful staff and lovely breakfasts - The stairs!!!!!! there's a lot of them and no lift making any sort of disabled access totally impossible.

I stayed in Hotel V for 4 nights. Room is extremely small (I've never seen such a small room, my home bathroom is larger), and is not quiet (I could hear people talking in other rooms, when they flush their toilets etc). Table in the room is so small that you cannot even put your laptop there (to do that you have to remove the phone and flower vase - problem is that there's no floor space to put these anywhere). There's no shower basin, so after the shower whole bathroom is flooded. Staff is generally very friendly. Breakfast is rather OK, but cold. Staircase is very steep and narrow so if you have any problems with heights and/or walking, choose another hotel (no elevator here). Really. This hotel is only good if you're extremely tired, and just want a (one!) night sleep. No longer. And prepare to be waken up by other hotel guests.

+ The hotel staff is quite friendly. the location is easily reachable by trams - The hotel rooms are small as compared to the money they charge. the staircase is very small and congested. there is always a danger of you falling down and breaking your bones.

+ The hotel room was a decent size and the breakfast provided was not bad at all. - There is no elevator and the stairs are super steep and narrow.

Non-smoking rooms or floors would be a welcome addition.
