This was by far the worst experience I've ever had, whether it be motel or hotel. I have stayed at 1, 2, 3, and 4 star hotels and all sorts of guest houses/motels in the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, and Germany, etc. and this little 1 star should be a -5 Star (if that rating existed). One of the beds was broken and unusable, the shower and bathroom were disgusting, the staff was rude, crude, talked down to you, and told you there was nothing you could do about it. I booked this in the hopes to spend a night in Amsterdam before visiting a family friend in the Netherlands, and based on my short experience, including the black mold problems and water stained walls and room and everything else described above, led myself and my significant other to call our friend and see if we could come a night early. Thank God we could!!!! It was worth leaving the hotel, and having to rearrange our plans, including purchasing train tickets, to leave!!!! When asked by the staff why we wanted to leave I told them the conditions were horrible, the mold problems, the bed being broken, the stink, etc. and they said it was our choice but we would be charged the rate of the room as we had not cancelled 48 hours before - even though the room was unusable and not as described.

+ Great location aan de leidse gracht, easy to explore most of central amsterdam on foot. - Small room in need of a facelift, and we were 3 high, steep and narrow stairs...but hey that's to be expected from these type of old merchant houses...so you could say it's part of it's charm and it's a free workout too !

+ Basic rooms, great location, good directions given to find it, staff welcoming, great value for money. - Some of the rooms are not in the main part of the hotel and the front door to this part bangs very loudly(and often).

    - Perhaps the carpets in the rooms could be shampod more often.

+ Location was superb, yet peacefully quiet, with room overlooking the canal. Good breakfast buffet. Staff very friendly and helpful. - The room was very small with a shower in one cupboard and the toilet and basin in another, but it was cosy for one pers
