I stayed in Belga Hotel in April, 2004 on the way from Africa to Moscow. It was the first time for me to visit Holland, so Belga was found in net. As I remember, Room 7 was suggested me. Nothing against the accomodation... but a digital safe was broken. However the optional one was promised me to be delivered next morning (as it was rather late already). Keeping my luggage in the room I left the hotel and came back in one hour. But what a pleasant surprise met me! All my luggage was checked and revised in my absence and my cash carefully hidden was stolen!!! The total amount was at about $4.450. OK, nothing against, but the reaction of the hotel landlady was very strange. The person, at about 30, with a family name something like Zdravkovic or Zivkovic, apparently the Yugoslavian origin (I hope not to violate 'the guidelines') came in the morning only, despite of one of her guests had been robbed in her own hotel! The local police investigated the case during the night. They told me, it was almost sure, the hotel personnel was engaged. There were two young ladies on the reception... All the door magnit cards were taken off and the investigation was in process when I left Holland.

+ My partner & i stayed for 7days at the belga hotel. it is fantastic as a central location, minutes away from attractions, canals and nightlife, but quietly tucked away from the madness of dam square & the red light district, which is 10mins walk away. very helpful staff, pleasant and talkative - they were happy to point out places to visit off the tourist trail which are well worth trying to find, and is an adventure in itself. continental breakfasts may lack the selection of corporate hotels, but you get a warm family atmosphere as if it were your mum in the kitchen. we will definately be going back, and would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a place with character, atmosphere and which is as central as it gets. steve & rhona, glasgow, scotland 08 - Not really. its worth remembering how wet amsterdam is (canals) and when it is warm, it is a breeding ground for mosquitos, so bring some repellant with you. being scots we are well used to the midge death that awaits you in the highlands so it wasnt an issue for us, but worth noting for 1st time visitors. this affects all hotels on canals or near by, which must be 80% of them

Been there with my wife, the reception is in the middle of restaurant, very dirty and 'decorated' with no taste. We wanted to change the room but unfriendly stuff were not understanding and helpful, instead of it, we could hear their laughing and noise straight to our room on the first floor. Entrance door couldn't close, breakfast was awful, old coffee, old bread, cheese all melted, we ate in the city; there are far better places that this dump,no value for your money at all!

+ Good location, excellent breakfast, great cat in the entrance!!! - Hot water was not always hot, the bathroom was clean but it could be cleaner, the heating was making noise like "water leaking" all the night!

+ Location, always hot water - Dirty room, door unlockable, tiny toilet, nasty

    - Tiny room. one toilet(space to swing a cat?) serving the whole floor. two showers, one working. needs a heavy revamp. very depressing visit. fortunately moved to a hotel same town next night - same price, but a real pleasure in every way.

+ Perfect location to explore the inner city. the hotel itself is best compared to a hostel with towels and breakfast buffet included, which explains why its relatively cheap compared to other local hotels. breakfast is simple and service is okay. just don't expect room service and in-house gym for that price. ;-) - While the hotel's location in a small side-street suggests a quiet environment, the hotel's manager and guests have their own philosophy about how much noise there should be in a "place to sleep". so don't be alarmed if you're woken at 2 a.m. by a group of doped, giggling teens trying to find their room. that is if your were not kept from sleeping at all by another group partying next door or the manager testing the volume capability of his stereo downstairs. well, at least they where very creative in their way, when keeping us from our sleep. every night there was something different. and nobody seems to care. toilet paper was quite scarce. so make sure you got all you need, before locking yourself in.
