Great hotel outside of Amsterdam We really enjoyed our stay at the Hampshire Golfhotel. We had a large quad room with 4 beds, and they also set up a travel cot for us. There was a fridge in the room, a nice deep tub, comfortable beds, and we had a sliding door to the outside with a view of the golf course. Free parking, an easy to find bus to Amsterdam (20 minutes), beautiful surrounding area. The staff spoke good English and the food at Magnolias was excellent - we ate on the patio overlooking the golf course every night. Beautiful lobby, pro shop and nice bar area. There were only a few things that would have made our stay more comfortable: - The keys for the doors were difficult and cumbersome to use - they were actual keys, and not cards that you swipe. - The patio outside the room was bare and not well taken care of, no privacy from the other rooms, and it looked like there were chairs on other patios, but not ours. - No screens or windows other than the sliding door, which we couldn’t leave open at night for security. No air conditioning, so the room was too warm at night. - No peephole on the door - No clock, tea kettle - The phone had no direct line to reception, so when we needed more sheets & towels in the middle of the night (sick child), I had to walk down to the lobby. Despite these things, we would still stay here again and would definately recommend it to others! Traveler's tip on local attractions There is a 20 minute bus (#107) to Amsterdam - reception provides directions on how to find it. It was very easy to use. The hotel has bikes and the surrounding roads all have nice bike lanes - great for biking & running

The hotel room was comfortable and clean. The public areas were also clean and tidy and simply furnished. The bar area was reasonably busy and friendly, and the food and drink were good value. As I travelled by car, transport was not an issue, but others

Although modern - a very nice hotel with huge rooms, nice staff and although in the middle of nowhere - all the better for it -all at a very good price that the Dutch seem to be able to do. Same quality in UK -at least twice as expensive. Breakfast too ex

Comfortable Hotel The rooms were good sized, comfortable and clean. Good value for rooms, the restaurant was very pricey so we ate elsewhere. If you are without a car, the bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the Hotel and the Hotel staff can help you with rates and schedules. Hotel is on the edge of Purmerend and is very close to the nice little village of Edam. Purmerend and Edam do not have many American Tourists, but we still were able to find many english speaking shop keepers. Cannot finish this review without discussing the hall. The Hotel is a round ring so every room has a view of the golf course. If you have a room in the 40’s or 50’s the hallway to your room seems endless. Part of the reason is that the hallway is round so you never see the end. It actually became a humorous part of our day going down the hall that never ends. Don’t let the hallway scare you away however, if you are going to golf, you are going to walk a lot more on the course than the hallway.

Got a Smoking room allocated to me, I'm a Non-Smoker. Realised it was a smoking room after walking 400m to get to the room. Staff should ask what kind of room is required before allocating one or at least indicate to the customer that a smoking room is be

Would stay there again This hotel had a wonderful and very helpful staff. I was on a business trip and had several vendors joining me. The hotel staff made our stay very pleasant. The food in both the main restaurant and the bar, were top notch. I will definitely stay here on my next trip. Traveler's tip for business travelers There is one internet computer in main lobby, but it is always in use by someong. There are limited number of rooms with ethernet connections. Most rooms, you will need to use dial-up.

Quiet and nice, needs better catering I liked the hotel, rooms were nice. Golf was brilliant. The only slight inconvenience was food. It could have been better. Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay It was diffuclt to find nice accommodation at reasonable price in the city due to holidays season. Golf hotel in Purmerend came very handy. I stayed there for 3 days during New Year. It’s only 20 min away from Amsterdam. Public buses (#107) run on time. Although it’s only public transport to commute between hotel and city, it gets you right to the central station, the hub. From the bus stop to hotel there is max 5 min walk. You can play golf all you want. Rooms are spacious.

Not the best This hotel was not the best. The carpet throughout was stained and dirty, including in the room. The wall between the bathroom and where the bed was smelled of mold and mildew. We tried to check in to our room early because we had an overnight flight and arrived well before check in time but we were not allowed to check in until exactly 3:00 so we spent most of the day waiting around the hotel. The front desk staff indicated that she would try to get our room ready early but obviously that was not true. Location was nice if you don’t mind busing in for 40 mins., for us being out of Amsterdam for a bit was great. THe staff in the clubhouse were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The golf was great, too. Yellow course a favorite. Traveler's tip on local attractions We rented bikes from the hotel and rode to Edam which took us about 45 minutes. Well worthy the visit. Very cool and historic little town with a great little museum which you can tour for 3E
