'Worst Hotel in Europe' Anne Franks house is a short walk from the hotel on a busy street with plenty of shops, 5 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal.

Cheaply priced but not worth the money The hotel is one star and it shows. Though I picked this place because I only needed a place to sleep at night, I still felt it lacked the cleanliness and amenities that a hostel would have provided. For example, no fitted sheets on the mattresses, which means waking up every night to the sheet falling off and sleeping on a bare mattress. One day they didn’t clean my room even though I was gone all day, and during my 6 night stay, I only had my towels changed once. The worst was coming back to the US and finding I had several bug bites on my back and legs. There were a few good things about the place: very convenient spot in the city - can walk everywhere from the hotel and very secure: someone is at the desk at all hours and you have to buzz to get inside. Traveler's tip on dining Dining out in Amsterdam can be super pricey. If you’re more interested in seeing all you can and not spending a lot on food, try pancake houses, falafel huts, and every cafe has delicious sandwhiches.

Adequate hotel in an excellent location This hotel isn’t the greatest, but it really isn’t that bad for the price and location. We had a room with a balcony which was nice. The room itself was rather small and the carpet shows obvious signs of wear. The room did have a shower and a sink and the toilet was close to the room. The bed sheets and towels were changed daily. Like others have have said there are a lot of stairs, we were on the top floor and counted 74 to our room from the front door. When you first get there you will have to be buzzed in and will have to climb what probably is two flights of stairs. Breakfast was boiled eggs and bread with butter, jelly, and peanut butter, not really bad but we skipped it about half the time we were there. The staff was friendly, but I think there were only two of them working 12 hour shifts. They know what room we were in and gave us the right key without us having to ask.

No toilet, no screens, filthy carpet, no elevator, floor warped I don’t know what a 1-star hotel includes but this is supposed to be a 1-star facility. I could hardly get to sleep due to the mosquitoes buzzing my face since there are no screens on the windows; they haven’t invented screens in Europe yet; that’s true everywhere. The carpet should be taken outside & burned, it’s that filthy. The floorboards are loose & warped so that you wonder if you’re going to end up in the room below you. And the leg-breaking stairs are pure Hell: 57 steep steps, like a ladder, to our room, and we weren’t on the top floor! There are railings on both sides and you’ll need to use them, but imagine trying to haul luggage up a ladder and you’ll have a good idea of what it’s like getting to & from your room. You have to use a toilet down the hall and like all Dutch toilets, they waste no space: I had to sit sideways since to close the door there’s no room left for your legs!!!!! Who uses a toilet like this?? The location is good; you can walk to the train station. They have a so-so continental breakfast: hard-boiled eggs, bread, cheese, coffee. What they do with their revenue I can’t tell but it’s not being put into the facility, though the sink fixtures looked new. Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks THe location is good and though you may read that pea soup is a Dutch tradition, it isn’t found everywhere, so go to Maneer Pancake: it’s really hearty! If you want to go the the Anne Frank house, get tickets online first: it will save you standing in line for hours! With an online ticket, you have a set time to get in and walk right in the door, no waiting. There’s really nothing to see there, but you’ll find that out for yourself; just an empty building.Pretty much a bust.

    - Walls are too thin (noise travels everywhere) . electrical fixtures in room were poor/unsafe. unclean looking carpets. shared toilets very small.

more than sufficient Obviously this is not a 5-star hotel. That being said, it was more than sufficient for someone wanting an inexpensive place with all the basics. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, and it had everything you need- bed, toilet, shower and roof. The location was great-- everything in downtown Amsterdam within minutes on foot. The staircases are certainly steep, but you get used to it.

Shabby but Clean & Convenient! And Stairs . . . The hotel has a fabulous location--walk anywhere! It’s 2 blocks from the Anne Frank House, 3 blocks from Dam Square, 20 minutes from Vondel Park & the Museums, on the tram, on the canal boats. Steep and numerous stairs, but hotel personnel helped us with bags, coming & going. Spartan accommodations (No TV, no phone in room) but clean if worn and shabby. Breakfast no special deal: bread, boiled egg, cheese, jam, coffee. But go next door to Sara’s pancakes!!! Very good. We were the only Americans there and it doesn’t seem to meet American standards judging by other reviews. My sister and I found it friendly and adequate. Be careful though--all those stairs! and steep! Can’t beat the location--and it’s cheap. Traveler's tip on local attractions From this hotel you could walk to museums, Vondel Park, Central Station area, most attractions. Amsterdam is flat (though cobblestoned) and you don’t need the (very good) public transportation to see the city!
