made the visit very special The staff was amazing, room very large and nice: great for our 3 person group. Quiet, off beaten track enough to be pleasant, but close enough to attractions. A walk to the main events, but walking is the best part. Close to train and parking and cruise ships. Traveler's tip The shopping near the hotel is more reasonable than the other end by St. Marco’s Square. But be sure to wear very comfortable shoes when walking around Venice: the cobblestone tiles are uneven slightly and can wear on your feet unless you have tennis shoe type comfort.

Very pleasant & convienient Staying in a pristine former monastery just around the corner from the train station was a wonderful experience. The rooms were very spacious and nicely appointed, the public areas (where the monks used to dine) were beautifully restored, the staff was very pleasant, knowledgeable and always helpful. Although it was just steps from the main Venice thoroughfares, it was always quiet. This will be our choice for when we return. Being just around the corner from the train station you can find this hotel quickly. We so many people wandering around Venice w/ their luggage & directions frantically looking for their accommodations. We felt fortunate with our choice. And with the really nice breakfast they serve, families are off to a terrific start!

Close to the train station It is really hard to travel in venice with your luggage. This hotel is 5 minutes from the train station. It is off the main road and very quite at night. The staff were very nice and could speak english. The breakfast that is included is the normal european breakfast like cereal, yogurt, meat, cheese, rolls, croissant, and hard boiled eggs with coffee and tea. The bathroom was really nice but it didnt have a shower curtain. I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone staying in venice. Traveler's tip on dining When looking for somewhere to eat check the menu for the price before you sit down.

Quirky but nice The Abbazia is a great place to stay in Venice, but it is quirky. If you need 5 star attention and white gloves, this is not it. If you want to feel like you’re staying at Aunt Maude’s, this is more like it. The rooms are clean. The lounge is a fun place to hang out later in the day and meet fellow travelers while watching hysterical Italian variety shows. There’s a very out of tune piano if you wish to play. The breakfasts are full of variety so you don’t have to eat the same thing every morning. The staff is great and pretty funny. But be prepared for odd surprises from the maid service, bed spreads disappearing, not replacing toilet paper, etc. When it goes awry, just let the front desk know. The beds are ROCK hard. Oh, and those bells at 7:15 AM, I hated them. It was like a snooze alarm that wouldn’t shut off. The Abbazia is also a bit of a walk from San Marco but if you like walking and getting lost, you’ll be okay. We enjoyed the quirkiness. It just added to our adventures in traveling. Traveler's tip on shopping Take a walk down the Terra Rio Lista de Spagna (the larger street to the left when you come out of the hotel and back out to the Grand Canal). Keep going over towards the Ponte delle Guglie. Here you start to find the locals and less touristy shops. There are wonderful pastry shops, fruit stalls, grocers, chocolate shops, etc. Oh! and buy boots or shoes in Venice. They are superb!

Excellent Staff and location We recently booked a cruise leaving from Venice and visited the city early to enjoy a few days prior to the cruise. The Hotel Abbazia was an excellent choice. If you arrive by air to Marco Polo airport, take the bus down to Piazalle Roma and you can walk to the hotel from there, about 10 minutes. If you have suitcases you will have to cross three bridges, two short ones and one longer. The hotel is also within a 2 minute walk from the major train station in Venice with easy connections all over Europe. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Most of them speak excellent English and will give you great recommendations for dining and transportation. The hotel, a former Abbey, is charming and clean. The bathrooms are equipped with modern fixtures. This hotel is located in the Canneragio district of Venice in the northern part of the city. You can quickly leave the heavily trafficked tourist areas and enter quaint and interesting neighborhoods and meet the local people. Hopefully we will return to Venice someday and will definately stay at the Abbazia when we do. Traveler's tip on local attractions Get a good city map and explore on foot. This is a charming city but easy to get lost in without a good map. Cross the grand canal and check out the Bassilica Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari and the scuola dei San Rocco next door. Absolutely stunning and the second largest church in Venice after Saint Mark’s. The scuola (school) is loaded with marvelous paintings by Tintoretto. If you can find a concert by Interpreti Veniziani, by all means go. They are fabulous!

Convenient Hotel Hotel is next to train station-very convenient and easy with luggage! Travel to main attractions really doesn’t take long. The concierge is very friendly and nice. Buffet breakfast is very good. The rooms are very small, however, just enough room to walk. This is probably true of most Venice hotels, though. The bath is attractive, but the floor and shower could use a little extra scrubbing. Over all, a nice place to stay.

Good location The location of this hotel was great. It is right around the corner from the train station down a very narrow alley. Our room was very plain and could have used a paint job. Other rooms we peeked into were decorated much better, but I don’t know if they cost a lot more than ours. For the price we paid, the room was comfortable and very large and a great deal. If I stayed there again I would ask for a room that overlooks the inner courtyard. Ours faced the back roofs and there was a barking dog out there somewhere. I thought breakfast was very good and was served for a long period of time (from 7:30 to 11am) so we never had to rush. Traveler's tip on shopping As mentioned else where, take advantage of the free water taxi to Murano to see the glass blowing and then set off on your own. Buy glass there and not in Venice. I would highly recommend going to the other islands if you have the time. They were all very different and added a lot to our overall experience.

Great hotel, great price This great hotel located in a small street near train station. Clean, high maintened, nice customer service and nice restroom. Only problem is that bed is little bit hard, but all bed like this in Europe.
