Mari 2
Via Calatafimi 40 - 00185 Rome
The hotel Mari 2 is a comfortable budget hotel located near Rome's central railway station Termini and Piazza della Repubblica square, the gateway to some of the finest monuments in the city. The large avenue of via Nazionale winds down from the above mentioned square and will lead you right into Piazza Venezia with its famous Altare della Patria hosting the body of the Unknown Soldier. On your left viale dei Fori Imperiali takes you to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, while on your right a steep flight of stairs will lead you onto Capitol Hill. The hotel is therefore perfectly placed to reach any attraction in and around the city, in no time. Its vicinity to the main railway station also provides quick and easy access to trains leaving for all major Italian and European towns as well as for the airport. The helpful staff of the hotel offers guests useful informations and services such as free maps, luggage storage, laundry service (outside of the hotel) and an Internet Point in the hotel lobby. The hotel also organizes several guided city tours and special features such as dinner with theatre, visits to the nearby Castelli Romani or Tivoli baths or even a place at the traditional Wednesday mornings' Papal Audience.

The hotel was close to main station. We did not enjoy our stay at this hotel. We chose it on the basis that breakfast was included over a number of similarly priced hotels. Breakfast was not included, and the hotel refused to accept any resposibility for the error in their listing on their website. It was also unpleasant to be expected to carry our baggage up 8 flights of stairs to the fourth floor, as no lift is provided in the building. We were also not advised that though our room was provided with a functioning airconditioner, we could only have the controls to use it at an extra cost of 8 euros per day. Similarly, when we asked if if we could leave our bags at reception on our final day, we were told that an extra charge of 3 euros per bag would apply. We took our bags to the station. The Mari 2 is not even close to the usual high standard of pleasant, quality hotels we have booked through the hotels.de website previously.

Quiet place although near to heavy traffic areas. Good location regarding public travel. Nice people. Shower a bit small, but OK. I recommend it to those who have average expectations for good price.

The sink in the shower was defect, so it stank horribly in the whole room. We had to ask in a very strict way to get an approvment - for the last night we got another room. Besides the shower was not repaired.

One thing i would have liked to have known was taht our room was on a sixth floor walk up. After all day of ewalking around the city, those stairs are quite challenging.

I definitely think that Mari 2 should have a lift up to all the rooms not only is it convenient for travellers but also assists the elderly or disabled. I was abit disappointed that the room didn't have a t.v. I paid for a room in Venice, right on the Grand Canal and I only paid 50 Euros for the room and it had a t.v. When we arrived the person at the front desk told us that we had to check out early in the morning at around 8am and he wasn't sure about that. We both woke up in the morning, went down to reception and were greeted by a very welcoming young lady who was very helpful and looked after our bags while we walked around Rome and enjoyed the sites so that made our stay at the Mari all worthwhile. I still have the card from her and will in no means hesitate to stay at the Mari again in the near or distant future!!! Thank you.

I give this hotel a bad rating because it is a pensione and NOT a hotel. It was listed in the hotel section instead of the hostel section. Very deceiving! There was no elevator, phone or air conditioning. The manager treated us poorly even though we clearly stated that we were still going to pay the room charge but still had to go because we were with my mother with a heart condition and she couldn't handle the extreme heat. They were not going to lose any money but the manager still felt the need to yell at us and treat us rudely. We got an airconditioned room with the hotel above his hotel. In the morning when we were loading our luggage into taxis to head to the airport the manager of the Mari had six policemen escort us out! The police checked with the front desk and found out that we had paid and apologized and left. That manager of the Mari is a psycho and should lose his license! Do not stay here! Obviously they are used to dealing with young kids who are easily intimidated.

I stayed during Easter so the price I payed was a little higher than what I got.. but considering the high season.. this was not a bad choice.. For those looking for just a place to stay in a decent room this is it...

Arrived quite late at night. Entrance was very small. Had a bit of trouble with the language differences. Had to walk up 4 flights of stairs to our room. The whole night we were disturbed with other people coming and going. Our room was to the back of the hotel looking out onto back of houses - very noisy first thing in the morning with locals catching up. It would have been ok for the night if it hadn't been so expensive. 155 euros for a quad room was expensive for what we got. I would return here if there were no alternatives as long as it was only for 1 night no longer. They should reduce their prices.
