Hotel Marcus
Via Del Clementino 94 - 00186 Rome
Right in the historic centre of Rome, the simple Hotel Marcus is housed in an 18th century building with an eye catching pink façade, less than 500 metres from the Spanish Steps. The air conditioned guestrooms feature warm modern décor with wood furniture. All rooms have satellite television, telephones, minibars and private bathrooms with hairdryers. Guests needing to send a fax, email, browse the Internet or make photocopies can use the hotel's Internet corner and business services. Knowledgeable staff can provide detailed local information, help book tickets, and organise guided tours of Rome's major tourist attractions. Those arriving by car will find parking spaces in the immediate vicinity and airport transfers can also be arranged in advance. The hotel's central location means that many of Rome's major attractions are right on the doorstep; the Castel Sant'Angelo, the Piazza del Popolo and the monumental St Peter's Square are all within a kilometre. Visitors will find countless eateries, bar and designer shops in the area immediately surrounding the hotel. Rome Fiumicino airport is about 30 kilometres and a 45 minute journey from the city centre. There is an express train service every 30 minutes to Rome's Termini train station (journey time 30 minutes). Change to the metro at Termini, the nearest station to the hotel is Spagna. Taxis are readily available at the airport and a journey to the centre costs around 45 EUR. Guests can also contact the hotel reception to book a taxi.

+ The central location. - I arrived the first night to be told that even if my online reservation was completed, they had no room for me. i was driven in another hotel near vatican to spend the night and next morning my bags were transfered back to hotel. waiting for drivers took a lot of time and having to pack and unpack and transfer luggages was frustrating on a short weekend trip. bathroom was added later in my room in a small corner and had no proper facilities or lighting. i think the hotel was a bit overpriced for its amenities.

Located on 2nd floor (with lift). There are standard and new rooms. Thought the entire hotel had been refurbished in 2008 so was a bit surprised to be asked if I wanted a 'new' room for an additional 20 euros. Having said that, the bathroom was new, the room comfortable, if a bit basic and worn. Location perfect, very close to Piazza Navona, the river (with parking on the street at 4 euros for 8 hours, free overnight). Breakfast at extra cost of 5 euros, but we went to a bar instead, though the breakfast room looked to be very pleasant. Would recommend.

Old room with low standard (bathroom very poor) and breakfast isn't worth having in the hotel. But the surroundings are great with a short walk to Piazza Navona, Pantheon, The Spanish Steps and the Vatican.
