Hotel Art By The Spanish Steps
Via Margutta 56 - 00187 Rome
Housed in a former seminary, this boutique hotel is a unique combination of original ecclesiastical architecture with modern design, where vaulted ceilings and period windows sit comfortably alongside modern lighting and contemporary pebbled floors. Located in the center of Rome, the hotel is close to the Spanish Steps, just 200 meters from the designer shops and boutiques of Via Condotti. The 46 rooms are individually styled with contemporary designer wood and leather furnishings, and neutral walls complemented by soft lighting. All have bathrobes and designer toiletries, as well as air conditioning, cable television, minibars and Internet access. A buffet breakfast is served each morning, and guests can enjoy a brunch menu as well as cold dishes, appetizers, cocktails and herbal teas in the Crystal Bar. Set in part of the beautiful former chapel, the bar is a harmonious blend of original arched windows and stone vaulted ceilings with sleek modern furnishings in rich browns and cool blacks. The fitness center with gym, sauna and Turkish bath provides an alternative source of relaxation, or guests can simply enjoy a drink and soak up the atmosphere in the lobby or the secluded courtyard. The hotel also has a concierge and offers room service, laundry and dry cleaning and valet parking. When guests tire of shopping and sight seeing, the Villa Borghese gardens, just 300 meters from the hotel, offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of the streets. Rome airport is 35 kilometers distance.

Great location - quiet street but walking distance to attractions. Rooms are clean with comfortable bed and linen. Bathrooms are small but with all the amenities. Front desk and concierge personnel were friendly and helpful. It was a great stay for us.

What a fantastic find!!!!! Lots of great local places to eat and drink if you venture out. Hotel staff have a wealth of information if you want to go out and eat or dance, but we just wandered untill we found somewhere that was packed with locals, and boy did we enjoy. Rome in itself is utterly spellbinding.

Small rooms, large price When entering the hotel, you get the feeling of walking into an art gallery. The hotel floors are all painted with a different colors and the lobby is wide and inviting. However, the walls on our floor were noticeably dirty. I don’t know if this was an attempt at art, or a case of dirty walls. Our room however, was very clean. The bathroom although ample for our needs, was small, even by Roman standards. The bed in our room was supposed to be a king-sized bed, but we had two twin beds pushed together. You could feel the crack between the two mattresses. The staff of the hotel was friendly and provided us with several items upon request. The location is great, but several options are readily available in the same location. Traveler's tip on shopping A man in a market once sold apples to passers by. In one stack he sold the apples for 4 sheckels, and in another he sold for 8 sheckles. When asked why he charged different prices, he responded, "some people want to pay 4 for an apple, others want to pay 8." This hotel is the 8. If you go to D and G to buy socks, this place is for you. You’ll pay a small fortune for a small bit of cloth.

We had reserved one double and one single bedrooms. The single was VERY small at about the same price as the double. The bedrooms and public areas furniture are worn out and had dirty, black scuffed floors and walls. The hallway, lounge, breakfast area are not as spacious as they look on their website, actually they are very small also. Welcome at reception is not that friendly, we had been confirmed an early check in and late check out by e-mail and when we arrived at the hotel this was not true, so we did not bother to stay longer than official check out time. Prices are much too expensive and this is definitely a low category 3 star hotel

We were made very welcome One of the most enjoyable hotels I have ever stayed in, and I have sampled hotels across the world. This was mainly because all the staff were so good at their jobs and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent - plenty of variety and good quality too. The one lunch we had in the hotel was crafted to our specific requirements and was delicious too. Our standard double room was not large but was spotlessly clean and the air conditioning really worked. A real blessing when the outside temperatures were 30+degC. We liked the quirky decor. It is good to find a bit of individuality now and then. I used the business centre (OK) but not the fitness suite. TV reception (i.e. picture quality) was poor but then there was little or nothing we wanted to watch - or had time to linger over.

Nice But Noisy Hotel Hotel and room are nice and location is good. Inside of hotel is very noisy due to no carpeting in the hallways - thus you hear everything in the hallways at all hours of the night. Aside from noise from the hallways of the rooms at all hours it is really a nice hotel.

Small Luxury Hotel Art on Spanish Steps is in a very conveneint location and welcomes you inside with a nice porch road... You feel the small luxury from the enterence and in your rooms too. Basically in a walking distance to shopping district, spanish steps, fontana trevi and piazza navano.. Rooms are very nice , cozy and comfortable... Amenities are of good quality.. Traveler's tip on dining Go out of the shoping area and touristic area for REAL Italian, local restaurants :-) There are several very old and traditional institutions within 15 minutes walk which serve the best Italian with house wines ! P.S You need to speak a little Italian at least to order :-)
