This is in a very good location. The staff is a little aloof and gruff but they did in up helping out when given a little time and being patient. The one elevator was broken half of the day so carrying up luggage for the 5th floor wasn't fun but we did get a lot of exercise using the stairs a lot. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Bathrooms had been updated. Furniture old and well worn but clean. A/C is there but not real cool . Keep BR doors closed because no ac in there so room will stay cooler. If you roll down the blinds part way it may keep some of the hot sun out which helps. General public areas are warm. The place is average. I won't stay there again but it is a safe, basically clean and adequate place to stay. We were out all day anyway.

The hotel has no restaurant and the bar was closed without apology at 10.30 pm each night. Facilities were really basic and the ensuite shower and toilet was very badly laid out and was fitted with very cheap shoddy fittings. The TV was poorly tuned and getting a good picture was difficult. Maid service was good but the poor girl had to work from early morning to late evening to finish a heavy work load. Reception was overstaffed and largely unhelpful. We were accused of trying to sneak out the hotel without paying on our last morning despite having paid in advance in full. O, and dont bother smoking in your room, they say you can but all you will do is set off the fire alarm and cause all the fire doors to close on your level. We have stayed in Rome before in much better hotels, this one is simply a dormitory. Best avoid.

+ Fantastic location, helpful staff, excellent breakfast - Boiler was broken when we arrived and were not informed until after check in - took 2 1/2 days to fix and get hot water!

If you are going to Rome and want something more than the chain hotel I do recommend the Olympic. Clean rooms, not huge suites but they have the basic amenities, private bathrooms and showers which is a major plus in Europe, and just blocks away from both the Vatican and the subway. Not to mention a really good continental breakfast. If you are on a budget and want an adventure the Olympic should definitely be a top consideration.

Great location There is a great market in front of the hotel and the prices are very reasonable. Buy your supplies there, ex: water, fruits etc.

Found by accident this summer, the Olympic hotel was a jewel. It's closest to the Vatican Museums entrance, less than 10 minutes from St. Peter's. Excellent bus & subway access is another plus; I took a cab only from the hotel to the airport train. The staff was friendly & helpful, very efficient. Don't expect a Vatican palazzo! This is a renovated office building, but well done. My room needed new wallpaper, the view was the airshaft, and -- an August consideration! -- the air conditioning was nil. Don't drink the thin coffee, but breakfast rolls & juice were fine. The bathroom was huge, very comfortable. And from the corner you could see the roofs of the Vatican! Wonderful!

+ The grand hotel olympic is situated in an ideal position for sight seeing in rome. the rooms are clean and on the whole the staff are helpful and friendly. - We were not informed the hotel is undergoing building work, which started early in the morning. the dining room is very grim and the quality of the food served is very poor.
