Best Western Hotel Artdeco

Via Palestro 19 - I-00185 Rome

There are only three hotels it in the world comparable in terms of elegance and charm. Every detail has been studied and realized in accordance with the famous Art-Deco style of the early 1900s, which culminates in 1925 with the historical exhibition of the decorative arts in Paris. The period style and the refinement of the interior decoration and details are combined with the most advanced services and technology to provide the maximum in luxury and comfort. The Artdeco is located in the historic center of Rome, a few steps from the famous gateway of Porta Pia. It is situated in the heart of the diplomatic, financial and fashionable city. Connections with public transport are optimal: the subway station is only 200 meters from the hotel and stops of principal city bus lines are close-by. The Hotel is just five minutes from the railroad station, Stazione Termini and 45 minutes from Fiumicino Airport. This prime location allows guests the best of both worlds: convenient to the vicinity of the bustling Eternal City's main attractions and the opportunity to relax in a most private atmosphere.

I have stayed here on four separate trips. It is a wonderful place to stay: nice rooms, nioce staff, good breakfasts, on quiet streets, lots of restaurants nearby, supermarket nearby, and ten minute walk to the Termini. BUT don't even think that you will get credit for the stay on you Gold Crown Club card without having to write for them later. They just don't follow thorugh. Dr. Lynda Cook

We booked this at this hotel only two days before we flew to Rome and got a very good deal. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room but we asked for some and this was actioned immediately and was free of charge. We had a meal in the Restaurant attached to the hotel which was lovely and the breakfasts were great with plenty of choice.

I originally booked into the Camelia, but was overbooked when I got there last week, and was told that I had a place at their sister hotel, the Art Deco...

+Friendly reception to hotel and was allowed in to room earlier without charge. Free internet access in lobby was great and good breakfast -Room was tiny and more of 3 star standard, but quiet location made up for it. Air con worked poorly.

While one probably has nothing to complain about given the quality - price ratio of hotel rooms in Rome (and much of Continental Europe) I must say that my single room at Art Deco was rather small (perhaps that is what you get for Euro 120, B and B). I have indeed been to bigger rooms - in this I include school and college rooms I lived in - rather than 5 star hotels. On the whole, the hotel is not bad (and double & triple rooms are adequately sized from what I could see from my sneak peaks at cleaning time). It is clean, the breakfast is OK and the staff are, on the whole, decent. Also, the street the hotel is in is very quiet and safe as embassies and police abound. The location is a bit of a trek from the 'epicentre' of Rome (15-20 minutes) but the proliferation of busses/ taxis should make up for this for those who don’t wish to walk too much. For those who wish to see the famous Bernini and Boromini churches, the location is perfect – the majority of the most famous churches being ‘down the road’ from the hotel. People going there in April and even possibly May, may find it that the air conditioning is not on, especially in April. This month is still considered as cold by the Romans (not a hotel lie for I’ve seen many Italians dressed as one would dress in January in London) and so there is heating but no air conditioning. Overall impression is that in Rome, really, there isn’t much choice – either this, the very cheap places of , possibly, dubious nature or Euro 250/300 + (semi) luxury hotels in the ‘downtown’ area.

I stayed here for 2 nights in early March 2008. My single room was small (as usual in European hotels) but, like the rest of the hotel, comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Facility-wise, my only small complaint is that there was no wireless internet in my room, only from the lounge, and whenever I logged out any remaining time credit vanished. However, there was a computer terminal available for free to guests, so this wasn't such a big issue. Though not centrally located, the hotel is 5 min walk away from Castro Pretorio Metro station, which is just one stop from Termini. It's on a pleasant street itself, but just around the corner from a strip club, adult cinema and a slightly sleazy area at night.
